Where can I check how full the January WDW marathon weekend races are?

I'm trying to wait awhile to sign up, but don't want to wait too long and find the Half full...

TIA!

I think the Disney Sports website starts to post once the races reach 50% and then they update in 10% increments?

Thanks, Vicky!

I couldn't remember from last year, and since I think I'm signing dh and I up for different races, I don't want to miss out!

Which race are you doing? I'm in for
the full but holding on to my money for as long as I can :)

I'm doing the Half, dh is probably doing the Full -- he hasn't committed yet, but doesn't want to keep me from getting my spot in the Half. I figure I'll wait a little longer if I can and register us both at the same time.

I too was trying to wait a little later to sign up for the 1/2. Do you know which one fills up first and how many 1/2 runners they sign up?

If memory serves right from last year, Goofy filled first, then half, then 5K, then the full just a few days before showtime.

That said, this year it seems to be much much slower than last year (else they've greatly increased capacity). Goofy filled early February last year, and has yet to hit 50% so far this year.

Goofy filled originally on 3/18(5000) before they reopened it reg and increased to 7500. The Half filled on 4/28.

Funny thing is that NONE of Disney's races(5K's to Goofy) that are on their schedule are 50% or more. The economy and their ever increasing fees are causing everyone to hold onto their money.

EEC 3 months away isn't even 50%! It might be the next race causality.

Thank you so much to everyone who has shared their insights -- I'm not sure if it's good news or bad that the races are filling slowly -- does anyone think it might have something to do with the poor weather this year? If that had been my first race, I might have to think seriously about whether I wanted to do it again or not. In any case, it sounds like we have plenty of time to register!

Good to see you, Robert! I hope you'll let us know when the races reach 50%, if you have time.

Thanks Again!

I have actually the other approach with weather. I would sign up just because I figure it would be a HOT year in 2011. :) If you notice, Disney raised the marathon $5 but the Half $15 so it is the same cost as the Full. Now tell me(as I am an RD), how come it costs the same to run a Half and full with 1/2 the aid stations and takes only 1/2 the time. :confused3

I put on a Full and Half next month. Full is $80(including medal, tech shirts and catered steak BBQ lunch). I only charge $45 for all of the same goodies(medal, tech shirts and catered steak BBQ lunch) as the marathon. I don't even have sponsorship money at all.

This explains why I have been hiding for the last 3 weeks(and the next 6 weeks).

This will be my first 1/2 marathon (or for that matter any race) and like Robert am hoping there can't be 2 years of sleet-just based on the odds hopefully this year will nice!:)

Robert, thanks for cleaning up my leaky memory! :)

As for me, I think cost is the primary reason registration has been slow. I'd venture that relatively few people would be swayed from a race, this one in particular, over weather. I know I sure don't care :)

I think the problem with EEC is the date. How many people want to run a race June 13th in Florida, even if it is at night? I ran it last year (in the monsoon) and had a blast - but there's NO WAY I would consider doing this one.
Then there's the $99 fee for the FAMILY FUN 5k for wine and dine weekend. $99!!!!! It includes a ticket for Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party on October 3 (Sunday night) - but it's not like there's an option to do the race without the party for cheaper, and I'm going home that day. ;( I was really looking forward to a 5k through the Magic Kingdom, but I can't justify spending more on the 5k per person than I am for the 1/2 marathon relay.

It sounds like a wonderful event -- I'd come just for lunch! I hope you have great weather and perfect race conditions!

Congratulations for signing up for your first race! You are going to have so much fun! I definitely think we deserve a warmer start next year, without any precipitation!

I enjoy this race so much -- the characters, the course, the general feeling of happiness and wonder -- that's enough to keep me coming back!

I agree with you, that sounds like a very uncomfortable race, and very expensive, too! I do wonder if they will change this race back to the fall if it doesn't do well, or it will cease to be...
