I'm heartbroken to find out that our family will be unable to stay in the new Pop Century resort on our upcoming trip :( It will be my husband, myself, and our three children, who will be 12, 7 and 3. Where CAN we stay that is reasonably priced? (similar to Value resort prices)? Thanks for your help!!!

Alas, there is no where with value resort prices. The cheapest option is usually Port Orleans Riverside's Alligator Bayou section. It has a trundle bed for the fifth person, which unfortunately you pay an extra $15 for. We stayed there twice before our kids got too big and liked it a lot.

While Pop Century is brand new, your older children will appreciate the pool slide and you and your husband might enjoy the hot tub at PO-R. This resort also is very nicely landscaped. We'll take a moderate over a value resort any day.

One other possible option is that sometimes Swan and Dolphin have really good deals. Do you or your dh teach or work for the government by any chance -- those two resorts offer some discounts. While not Disney resorts per se, they are on site and in a really good location.

You could stay at Pop Century if you are willing to get two rooms. Disney will guarantee connecting rooms in this cases. Many times two values rooms are much cheaper than any deluxe that will hold five plus you get two baths and two tv's. Our kids are 15, 11 and 8 and this summer we are going to get two rooms at a value or a moderate instead of one room at a deluxe, it is cheaper and we have more space. As mentioned about PO Riverside is also an option since your kids are smaller. The trundle bed is very small but ok. You could also check out the FW cabins. They sleep six and many times there are good discounts for these. Good luck deciding.

Definitely take a look at Fort Wilderness. My family has stayed in the trailers there at least four times. As a matter of fact, this past summer we got two adjacent trailers. One trailer can easily fit six people- there is a double bed, a bunk bed with two twins, and a fold-out sofabed. Another nice thing about the trailers is that they have nice big kitchens. We prepared a few meals there and saved on dining costs. The trailers get maid service every day! FW is very family-friendly and has pools, good transportation, and movie nights for the kids, yet has good prices. Easy boat service to the MK and buses to EPCOT and everywhere else. Also, while you're there, spend the money and do Hoop-de-Doo Revue!

I read that Pop Century has connecting rooms... you should be able to get 2 rooms with an interconnecting door guaranteed for you. It's actually convenient - - that way the kids can go to bed and you can still watch TV in the other room.

We were at All Star Movies last week, and two of our 3 rooms had an interconnecting door. We didn't request it - - Disney automaticly figured since we made the reservations in the same call that we were traveling as a group and therefore would like the connecting rooms.

It's unfortunate that there are not more options for families with 3 children. I did e-mail Disney with my concerns and I got a call back just the other day. They mentioned all the options available and admitted that these options are a bit pricey. They mentioned the possibility of doing something with the newer section of PC to accomodate larger families with out them having to break the bank to stay on site.

We did stay in a POR trundle room and enjoyed the resort. For the price, this is the best option, IMO.

We stayed at the Poly with 5 very comfortably. You also should look into DVC properties, such as Old Key West, BCV. BWV. These units have studios, one room and two room suites. SOme of the best deals can be found renting DVC points from an owner.

Have fun.

On property options for family of five:
(1) connecting rooms in value or moderate resort
(2) trundle bed room at POR
(3) most or all rooms at Polynesian, Contemporary, GF, BC, YC, BWI
(4) "deluxe" rooms at AKL, WL
(5) 2BR suite at DVC resorts (OKW, BWV, VWL, BCV) -- the occupancy limit is FOUR in the studio and 1BR suite.
(6) Fort Wilderness cabins
(7) Doubletree Guest Suites near DTD; on WDW property but not a Disney hotel. Generally good value, huge rooms, but not eligible for Early Magic Hour.
(8) I really don't know how Swan/Dolphin deals with this. Suggest you call and ask. I suspect standard rooms have a limit of four but I could easily be wrong.

Wow thanks for all the awesome input and responses! :Pinkbounc I truly appreciate your help. Since I am a newbie here at the DISboards, the terms are still a little new to me, but I'm figuring it out slowly. The thing I haven't really ventured into is trying to figure out the points thing. It looks interesting, though.

I've been to WDW ONCE when I was 17 with my best friend's family. We stayed in their pop up trailer in FW and enjoyed it, except for having to walk a ways to get to the shower and such.

I will definitely look into POR and the other options mentioned. Thanks!

Just a heads up to you, as I too have 3 children. When I called they told me I could get adjoining rooms with a discount code. I have, however, stayed in BC with my 3 kids, maybe it was because my twins were only 4 at the time, but had no problem. FW is very nice and have stayed in the trailers. Its very convenient for families. I agree though, for a family resort area, they really need to have more options with families larger than 4! Our next trip is 5 weeks away and we are going for it as some may say and staying deluxe this time at AKL. When I requested a discount, they said two standard rooms, but I found that one was in fact the cheaper route. I emailed and got my discount, they were extremely accomodating. Never hurts to ask anyone, there are deals to be had :D Good luck and I hope your family has a wonderful time. Since I found this board two weeks ago, I check daily for more information, it is the best place yet for any questions etc. related to Disney. Keep checking for discount codes before your trip, they save you so much money!!!

The Swan/Dolphin does sleep 5, but I think you have to pay a little extra ($25) for the rollaway. We loved the Dolphin, and my in-laws stayed in the Swan with 5. S/D is in the Epcot area between the Beach Club and the Boardwalk. It is really a great location and they have some really good deals, compared to the other deluxes in that area. The Dolphin does have a little more floor space than the Swan and is usually a little cheaper. The Swan's beds are slightly bigger and the Swan standard room has two sinks, which may help with a big group.

If you're willing to pay more, look into the Junior Suite at the Dolphin. It's great!

Good luck!

Guess what?

Looked through your responses and did'nt notice anyone mentioned cbr. We are staying there in May. I talked to cro and they said no problem on the toddler. (We have 5 people also).

You can use a crib or rollaway.

Try calling and see if you don't get the same response - they were great with us.

Look offsite and take the savings to the bank! We stay offsite at Marriott Grande Vista and our rate for a 2 bedroom unit is $143 nt + tax. Our room includes a king bed in the master bdrm, 2 queens in the other bedroom, queen size sleepersofa, 2 baths- one with whirlpool, w/d, full kitchen, screened and open air balconies and awsome pools. Look offsite and enjoy the space. My kids will be 13,8 & 6 on our upcoming trip in June.

I believe that the cut-off age for a young child not counting as a room occupant is the 3rd birthday (2 and under). So the OP does need to use one of the other options. We're trying POR and hope it's so wonderful that we never want to stay off-site again. Swan/Dolphin gets really expensive at $25/night for a rollaway. I hope Disney does follow through in adding options for families of 5 at POP. I think we'll love POR; I'd just like to have more choice at an affordable price.
