Okay, we are doing the Dining Plan (regular) and while we are in MK I am not happy with the QS places listed as participating in that park (this is based on the list provided on this site> I don't know if others are included but not listed...)
If there are others what are they OR>>> where can we get to fairly close and easy to have QS instead- I don't mind leaving the park for awhile-

My biggest issue is my youngest being able to have a wider choice than PB&J, chicken nuggets, garden salad... He is 7 and eats like the rest of the kids do (ages 10 to 17) Thx for any help...

This is the MK QS from the DDP PDF for 2009

Magic Kingdom® Park
  • Casey’s Corner (L,D)
  • Columbia Harbour House (L,D)
  • Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe (L,D)
  • El Pirata y el Perico Restaurante (L,D)
  • The Lunching Pad (L,D)
  • Main Street Bakery (B,L,D)
  • Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe (L,D)
  • Pinocchio Village Haus (L,D)
  • Tomorrowland Terrace Noodle Station (L,D)

I don't know if this is the same list that you have or not.

You are very correct that the kids offerings are limited at best.

Pecos Bill's has Hamburgers on the kids menu
Casey's has hotdogs (they do not have a kids menu)
The lunching pad has turkey legs (they do not have a kids menu)

IMHO leaving MK for lunch is a big waste of time that will take 2-3 hours out of your day.
If your youngen needs more food, you might just want to pay OOP for him.

Your only other option is some of the hotels surrounding the Lagoon but I'm not sure that their kids choice will be any better as I've seen more than a few threads complaining on that very subject.
SD:thumbsup2

I know that on our last trip we were able to get pizza or mac and cheese for the kid's meal at Pinocchio Village House in Fantasyland; they had kid's meals with burgers at Pecos Bill's; Casey's Corner has hot dog meals, and the kids still get the adult-sized hot dog if I remember correctly.

We've done the resort-hopping lunch thing too, but I have less clear memories of those CS kid's meals - I know we got one with a hot dog at one point last year (Grand Floridian, maybe?), and we've had sandwiches and cheeseburgers from the Polynesian CS for kid's meals before.

I believe you will find that the child options at nearly all CS places are very, very limited. It is a common complaint of Dissers with kids.

I figured as much but I appreciate the responses-
Yes, we have one "child" and 6 "adults" - He eats like the rest of us and I figured I could share or my 10 yerar old could share when portions are large but for the most part I have planned all of our meals where he could get some "variety" close to what our meals would be- We will be having Chef Mickey's at 9 PM that day so I figured a mid day "lunch" to hold over with maybe a snack early evening...
If we go to DTD (Wolfgang Puck Express) I just wonder howmuch time it would take away from other things- We are planning a midday break from parks each day-
I am thinking now if we start out a bit later for the park- drop in DTD first and explore- have lunch and then head to the park- OR get to park at rope drop and then at around 2 PM head to DTD and then the resort until about 7 PM and then back to MK for Wishes and then to Contempo for ADR- >>> Is that too much "running"- We will have our own transportation but I also wanted to experience park transportation even though it may mean longer wait times... Well, I guess part of the "Magic" is not knowing what to expect and not having it all perfect! LOL Thx again!

We just got back from using the QS plan and I found that places outside of the parks (DTD and resorts) had better choices for kids meals than inside the parks. By far, the best choices are at Wolfgang Puck Express.

Within MK, there are a few options outside of the kids meal choices...

~share an adult meal at Cosmic Rays...they offer 1/2 rotisserie chicken, BBQ ribs, or a combo of the 2

~go to the Turkey leg carts (all meals are the same....turkey leg, drink, chips...but no dessert)

~go to Casey's for hot dogs (no kids meals)

~use a snack credit for a baked potato with toppings at the Liberty Square Market

~I had the tuna salad sandwich at Columbia Harbour House and it was huge..probably big enough to share, especially if you add a "side" of something using a snack credit

Hope this helps!
Pam :)

I'd probably just buy OOP if necessary from an adult offering and maybe use the CS for a breakfast somewhere. Or maybe even someone in your party will be nice enough to choose one of the larger choices from the CS you're at and split it with your DS. You could even have him order a regular CS from the kids' menu for extra fries & drink or whatever.

:)

youguys must be reading my mind- The options you two have just posted are what I am considering...

Now Liberty Square for a baked potato?? Where is this? I would love that myself! & is it a snack credit?? That would be so cool! I will look up where that is.

I am thinking Main street Bakery for a late breakfast- No specifics on the menu and I was just wondering- I don't see that kids are different so this may work well for us. Thx again- I need to post a seperate thread for my next question>>>

There is a covered "open air" market in Liberty Square where they sell fresh fruit, beverages, and baked potatoes! It's pretty big, so you will probably see it if you are looking for it. The potato was a snack credit when we were there, so hopefully it will stay that way. You never know with Disney. Right before we went someone reported that Figaro fries at Pinochio's were no longer a snack...I checked and they were right :(

Have a great trip!

The travel time is what's going to kill you--there is no direct transportation from any park to DTD (because parking is free at DTD, I assume Disney is trying to make it difficult for those trying to get around the parking fee at the parks). I would never leave a park to go to DTD to eat, then try to return--you'd spend half the day on or waiting for busses (and boats and monorails). If you went with plan B, and went to DTD first, it wouldn't be so bad, and you could make it more fun by either taking the boat to POFQ and catching a bus to the MK from there (you could even stop in their food court and use a snack credit for an order of 6 beignets--mmm), or by taking a bus to one of the MK resorts (GF, Poly, the Contemporary or the Wilderness Lodge) and taking a monorail (GF, Poly or CR--I think the monorail is closest to the bus stop at Poly) or boat (GF, Poly, CR or WL) across Bay Lake to the MK.

But before you decide to dine outside the MK, keep in mind that with 7 people, you're going to have a boatload of food at a CS meal, even if you only order 6 adult meals. Remember, you'll have 6 entrees/combos, plus 6 drinks (you can large if you request them) and 6 desserts (many places will allow a side item instead of a dessert). We're a family of 3A/1C (kids are 11 and 5), and we nearly always just order 3 adult meals and share. Where we can, I like to get an extra side or fruit instead of one of the desserts--2 desserts are plenty for us to share. By sharing, the kids are hungry enough to want to use up some of those snack credits later, and I don't mind them having an ice cream because they didn't stuff themselves with an entire pizza or cheeseburger and fries along with a huge slab of chocolate cake.

Cosmic Ray's is good because it has so many choices, and some are huge, like the chicken and ribs combo. My favorite is Columbia Harbor House--you can get a fish and chips and chicken combo that includes both fish and chicken nuggets along with fries or apple slices. One of these is plenty for my kids to share (and then some). In the past, they've let me substitute a bowl of clam chowder or vegetarian chili for the dessert, which could stretch the meal even further.

Good luck!

Just as an FYI...they no longer let you get the 6 beignets as a snack...only the order of 3 is counted as a DDP snack :( But they are still worth it!!!!

Pam :)

OP--I probably should have added that I was assuming you'd be using Disney transportation. If you're driving your own vehicle, it might cut down on travel time somewhat, but probably not much. As I recall (it's been a long time since we've had a rental car--thanks to Magical Express!:thumbsup2), you have to park at the TTC and take a monorail to and from the MK.

I've been hearing that rumor for a while, but last year it seemed to depend on the CM. But you're right--now it appears to be official, since they've raised the price on 6 beignets from $3.99 to $4.29, so it's now above the $4 cutoff. Not surprising, if they're trying to eliminate "share-able" items from the approved snack list. I couldn't eat 3 of those things by myself, much less 6! Well, probably could, but shouldn't, and wouldn't feel very good after.

Thanks also for the baked potato tip--I'm so getting one of those next month (well, unless they decide to raise the price on that, too, lol).

Thx Thunderbird & Pam (again) LOL
This is great info & with the other post Summer also shared some other info that I think has me not worrying so much about CS anymore- Yes, Cosmic Rays I thought of and seemed to also have some great variety for us adults too! With Chef Mickeys @ 9 PM I think we will actually make it without too many problems in the hunger department! LOL
Thunder- I am preferring to use park transportation for the experience but if it seems one day will be easier on us to drive to a central location we may do that as well- I heard once we get to a resort or park w/ monorail we can pretty much hop from all types of transport depending on where we want to go-
We will be staying at SSR in April so to DTD will be okay- it is getting back to resort to head to park then-
I want to take the ferries, the monrails, and yes, even the bus along w/ walking to experience it all- Can you tell we haven't been before?! LOL I imagine by our 2nd trip I will know exactly which way I prefer to get from place to place- This time I am feet first, think about it later! LOL
I appreciate the tips here- It will also help with our decisions at HS- almost same dilemma But I am sure we will manage!
