When your spouse buys something because you bought DVC...

Did you ever hear from your spouse, "Well, you bought DVC...now I'm buying something for myself..."

It's happened to me. My husband, being the avid firefighter that he is, apparently has put in a bid on a semi-antique fire truck (this is also the man who requested a "fire station view" for our June 2007 vacation at SSR...much to the MS CM's amazement!). After I had my meltdown and ranted about "what would the average person do with a fire truck in their driveway?" he turned around and said to me, "I didn't say anything about you purchasing DVC" as if it was match point in a game of tennis.

I know that if it arrives at my house that I will get over it, but right now I am avidly praying that his bid is not accepted.

Anyone else have stories that they care to share about reciprocal purchases that their spouse made after you purchased DVC while I sit here nervously waiting for the bids to be opened tonight, hoping and praying that a fire truck is not coming to my house....

well if the DVC purchase is yours and not both of you.

tell him you want solo trips.... :thumbsup2

I had already planned my first one in December! I'm taking my DD and my DM for a girls week out.

I know he likes fire trucks...but can't he just go down to the station (which is only four blocks from our house) and play with one there???

Why could it not have been a sports car or add on points at VWL :confused3

I must say, you get the "strange story of the week award" from me!

I hope he does not win the bid! :rotfl2:

I kinda figured that I would get the "strange award of the week!" A fire truck is not exactly a routine purchase. On the bright side, maybe my homeowner's insurance will go down if there is a fire truck on the premises...

The fire company trustees are discussing the bids as we speak.
(I know that there are 2 others...and I'm hoping that one of them is for more than his bid).

Well, after we bought a contract at VWL, a year later DW decided that it was her turn to get to choose a purchase.

So we have a contract at BWV too! :thumbsup2

Firehouse view at SSR? Surely that's a higher point rate than that sordid DTD view, isn't it? I hope it's a guaranteed view! :teeth:

My DH bought a new Ford F350 truck in March. He didn't have much to say when I purchased DVC in April:teeth:

Trucks are his "thing" - Disney is mine. Now were both happy.

Well... I bought the DVC points but the purchase was inspired by DP. His love for Disney is what got me there and my buying the points meant he gets to go back often!

I'll have to remember these arguments though... "You got DVC, so I can get _____." Wait... I guess I would have already needed to use them because just after we bought DVC, I bought a new plasma TV and a new truck... :confused3 Ok, I guess I'll have to wait and use it for my "big" purchase after our next add-on (if we do one).

Oh, and as for the fire station view... it can have its perks! When I lived on-campus in the graduate housing... I had a fire station view and was fortunate that the station had glass roll-up doors that opened up not only to the firetrucks, but to the gym area too! :goodvibes :thumbsup2 :rolleyes1

DH got the hot tub and new deck for it.

I got DVC. He really couldn't say no after his big purchase.

Well, last night passed and as far as I know, he didn't hear anything yet.
I'm hoping that this is good news for someone else...

I'll keep the "view" in mind as I am gazing out at the fire station in June.
(gee, what would the "gotta have a great view" thread people think of this one?)

The only problem I see is that he used the DVC as a lever. If he wants a firetruck, and can somehow make this a sort-of practical purchase, I say go for it; mine however would be a shiney new motorcycle, perhaps RED. :thumbsup2

Mine was the payback for DH joining a golf club a couple years before. So we both have some high dues to pay.

This a very familiar and common converstion at our house...I have DVC and DH has Harley Davidson(HD)!! And to add fuel to our fire, DH lost his job last March and has been on unemployment since and has taken a few motorcycle trips (Sturgis, Nova Scotia, Vermont) over the summer. His unemployed status is just about over and now my time will come!!!!I see many solo/with friends DVC trips long into the future!!

DH purchased a grand piano. What I don't understand is..............he enjoys Disney as much as me. Maybe I need to do an add on. Then again, he probably wouldn't mind. ;)

I really love the piano, I know I WOULDN'T want a firetruck. I hope YOUR wishes come true.

Wow, DH and I decided together to buy BWV. Then, when I got a nice bonus at work, he was the first to suggest points at VWL as a potential use for part of the bonus! We pretty much like the same things (Disney!) so there is no problem with payback purchases.

I also hope you don't get the truck!

Well, so far it appears as though all of you have thrown enough pixie dust to help me in my plight :)
24 hours and he has not heard anything....so I am hoping that this means that we are not going to have a 1969 white open cab Hahn in our driveway.
Still holding my breath until we hear the final word.

By the way, I offered up the "add-on at VWL" if he doesn't get the truck...and he said he would go for that :cool1:

A bit of a fun twist on this issue: my family is me and my 19-year-old DS...our last 5 trips to Disney have in my mind been "our last" (it was only a matter of time, I was sure, before DS wouldn't want to go anywhere, including Disney, w/his mother!)...

He talked me into DVC this past June...argued long and hard (and persuasively)...the coup de grace? He promised to go with me, at least once per year, every year for the 47 years on our contract (SSR)!!!! What single mother of one could resist THAT "bribe?" And I love Disney every bit as much as he does, to boot...

Definitely I'm the big winner (as well as the big payer) in this equation!!! And I'm thrilled!!!

Well, now it sounds like your add-on is covered whichever way the truck auction goes! :thumbsup2

The day after we sent off our papers and payment for our DVC purchase, my dh went out and bought a 2004 Porsche Boxster S. :car: :car: Be careful what you wish for.

He did sell it recently - after I told him it was a girl's car. princess: I told him I was going to use that money for my Contemporary DVC points - he laughed and said the only thing with beginning with a "C" that is being bought with that money is a 2007 Porsche Cayman...I said, "that's still a girl's car..." :teeth:

Men. What do they know... :confused3

Well, I sort of did DH's big purchase for him in order to avoid the whole payback issue in the first place. For his b'day, I gave him 2 things...the DVC Members tote bag all wrapped up AND a little toy plastic boat (with a check inside...)...so that I could have my DVC and he had the downpayment for his boat. LOL...it definitely softened the blow! (BTW, this was not out of the blue...we had been talking about DVC and I knew he wanted in...he was just afraid of the money aspect. Since I took care of that, all is good and he won't ever throw it back at me...unless he wants to sell his boat!) :rotfl2:
