When your hairdresser moves to another salon?

I followed a nail tech for salon to salon for several years---then 3 days before Xmas and 1 day before my regular appointment, she called to say my appointment was cancelled and she was making a career change!!! I thought her timing stunk! I was obviously more loyal to her than she was to me.

Anyhow, my hair guy I would follow to the ends of the earth and I've only been seeing him for 3 years. He gives great service/advice and isn't afraid to correct me when I want something that wouldn't work for my hair. I only hope he never decides to make a career change before a major holiday without some "heads up" chat.

Not only have I followed KD from her place to the place she is now, but I use to travel from NY to IN and AL to IN to get my hair cut. I went a little longer between cuts, but we were able to time trips back home with my getting my hair cut. Heck, when she owned her shop, if she knew we were going to be getting in late on Sat, she would open up for me to get my hair do either sunday afternoon/evening or early monday morning, just to fit it in. We LOVE KD and neither DD or I would go any where else.

Within reason. I like my current stylist and have followed her to three salons. If she moved outside my comfortable commuting zone I probably wouldn't.

Where ever my hairdresser goes, I will follow. He knows that. He's the one that does my hair, not the salon/owner of the salon.

I have had the same hairdresser for 25 years. I followed her through about 4 different places, now she has her own salon. I have colored my hair for almost 7 years now and she does such a great job, I don't ever want to change. She has one child starting college this year and one starting next year so maybe she will work a good while longer!

I just followed my stylist to a new salon. I had only been going to her for about 8 months, but when she moved, I did too. She charges a fair price and isn't always trying to upsell me. She does a good job and is very flexible with scheduling.

I would follow my hairdresser to the ends of the earth, lol! He's the only person allowed near my hair with scissors. I have extremely curly, frizzy hair (although not so much anymore with the Keratin treatments), and sadly the vast majority of stylists have no idea what to do with it. I have had some pretty awful cuts over the years because of this. Luckily for me, my guy started seeing some clients from his home, which is a lot closer to me than the salon he works at!

I had an amazing stylist for a few years and then she moved to Texas. So for about 8 years I only had my hair done at Great Clips, you can imagine I didn't have much of a style but my cut worked great for my long hair, it was very flattering! Now I've finally found another amazing stylist who I love to pieces, she does my hair and my girls hair and she does an amazing job! She did an ombre' color on me that looks so amazing people think it's natural! She does the best styles, I've had her do my hair 3 or 4 times in an updo and then gone out and it's stayed in through all my dancing! (I am the line dance instructor at a local country bar so I dance a lot and spin as much as I can LOL) DD16 and I are going to see her tomorrow, I'm getting a trim and DD is getting a cut and some color added, I think she's going with turquoise. :) I'd follow her if I was able to do so, recently she was talking about moving to NV, I was about to cry when I found out. lol

I've been going to my stylist for 35 years! I was 13 and she was 21. So hopefully we're good for years to come. She's been in 4 locations but really only 2 salons (one salon moved 2x).

I'd follow her to the moon!!

I've been in 4 locations but only 2 salons (both shops have moved locations) and my clientele has been super faithful to me over the past 30 years (this month!)

I am amazed to read how much some posters say their hairdressers move from salon to salon. I worked for my boss for 11 years and then moved home to open my own shop 19 years ago. I'm kinda boring. :P

It depends. If I love my stylist, I will follow him or her to a new salon. And if the stylist I have now goes somewhere else, I will follow her as long as she's not going too far away.

I changed stylists after 5 years with the same gal because I moved and it was way too far to go for a cut and color. I found a local stylist, but I wasn't thrilled with how she cut my hair. I did my own color. When she changed salons about 6 months later, I found a new salon closer to me and they set me up with Mary. Mary cut my hair until she had knee surgery, less than a year after she started cutting my hair. She did a good job, but again, I wasn't thrilled. I waited the two months she would be out and called to make an appointment with her. The salon didn't let me know that Mary didn't come back after her surgery. It turned out to be a blessing!

I love my new stylist! I swear I'm going to adopt her so she has to stay with me always. She does a great job on my hair! I let her color it and put highlight/lowlights in it, which I did not allow anyone to do after I left my stylist of 5 years.

If you love what your stylist does with your hair, follow. If not, it's a great time to make a change.

It took me 3 years to find my current hairdresser. Fortunately, she only moved once since i started with her, But where she goes I go!

my stylist recently opened her own salon. i absolutely followed her. she's been cutting/coloring my hair for a few years. my hair looks the best it has EVER looked!

It has taken me several decades to find someone that I trust with my hair and does what I want and makes it look good. Fortunately for me, she has stayed in the same spot but if she moved to Istanbul..I'm right there with her:rotfl:

If your hairdresser moves to another salon, do you follow them?

I have always followed them

One of the hairdressers we use at a family salon is leaving. She cuts dh and ds3 hair.

Dh said he will just go to a barber now instead. I told him he should go to the new place where she is going because his hair is styled really well. I guess its a family salon too because she told them where she was going.

Depends how far away it is. My old stylist left and it was 45mins away, which was too much and her prices went up since she went to a more frou-frou salon.

We finally found another great stylist after searching for a year+.

I follow the stylist. I have curly hair and not just anyone can cut curly hair. Keep with whom you like.

I did once for a little while but it was a huge pain. She moved from mid-town Manhattan to NJ. So instead of a quick walk after work, it became an "excursion" on a Saturday. It was about an hour each way by car, plus tolls. Her Fifth Avenue/Vidal Sassoon rates stayed the same which was a little surprising. She did a great job on my hair but I didn't want to invest that kind of time and money in getting my hair cut any longer.
