...you're the only person who is trying like heck to stay out of everyone else's way?

It feels like some people are intentionally trying to plague me!
Am I paranoid? lol!

LOL! Oh yeah! I'd say its like playing grocery store cart dodgeball.

The greatest thing happened here a year or so ago, we got grocery delivery service. But the produce is not great, and I gotta have the freshest produce, so I shop. But I so hate to grocery shop.

I'm sure on the road paved to hell there are many grocery stores along the way.

I do too! I always try to be aware of who's around me, and all the other shoppers seem to care less if I can't get through. So there I stand, waiting patiently for them to move out of the way. I mean, why do they have to leave their cart in the center of the aisle while they're looking at the canned vegetables???

My favorite is the people who move their carts right up against your butt when you are waiting in line to check out. There is a special place in hell for these individuals!

I sometimes feel like I am the only shopper who doesn't belong to the Oblivious Family. You would think if you stopped your cart in the middle of the aisle and people kept saying "excuse me", that in the next aisle you would realize that the smart thing to do would be to pull your cart over to the side of the aisle. But apparently some people aren't able to apply the knowledge learned in one aisle to the next aisle. I try to send DH to the store whenever possible. The older I get, the less patience I have.

What about the ones who stand so close to you in line and you can feel their breath on the back of your neck?

Every time I go shopping I stand waiting my turn to go by and wonder if I just have some sign on me that tells everyone to please be rude to me and run over me. Nice to know it's not just me though.

Isn't it funny how universal grocery shopping gripes are? Doesn't matter where you live, it's the same everywhere.;)

We go a lot on Sunday afternoons, DH and I try to stay focused, but we know so many people who want to chat, it takes us hours to get through the store:rolleyes:
It truly is the dreaded chore each week.
Groceries here on the Cape seem so high in price.
We spend $200 - $250 a week for the three of us.
I'm curious if others spend that much?

I'm on a budget, so I go to the cheapest quality grocery here. We have some gourmet grocers that I splurge on occasionally.

I run in and grab, and run out! I hate the crowds.:D

Ughhh.....went through this yesterday. My personal favorite was a family of 4- mom, dad, 12/13yo son and younger daughter (5-6?) in the baking aisle....Mom was crouched in the aisle with their TWO carts beside her (so basically the whole aisle was blocked) and to TOP IT OFF the preteen son was standing smack in between the mom and the carts reading a comic book. I was like, "Um, excuse me." The Dad was very apologetic and the mom gave me a VERY dirty look. The reason they had two carts was not because they looked to be on a huge shopping spree, but 6 yo daughter was sitting in one and the other was for food. This particular grocery store has a FABULOUS new, FREE daycare for kids in the 2-7 range to play at while you shop, with TONS of new toys, videos, etc. My kids clamor to go (and that's where my 2 year old was!)---I wonder if they don't know about it, or if their daughter doesn't like it, or if they don't trust it or what...it's half the reason I shop at this store LOL! Stress free shopping at its finest!

And LynnCC, to answer your question, I would say that yes, your grocery store is expensive!!!! I shop at Costco once or twice a month and spend a total of probably $250 (this also includes diapers, paper products, shampoo and usually a book or DVD or something like that too). Then I spend probably $50-60 a week (sometimes less) at the regular grocery store. I am trying to make the effort to shop at a local produce only market for our produce as it's half the price of the grocery store, but with kids it's sometimes harder to do an extra stop. I went yesterday and got 4 huge bags full for $14.50----I was so happy! Peppers, carrots, tomatoes, strawberries, apples, oranges, zucchini, lettuce, bananas, onions, yellow squash, lemons, limes....it was great and definitely an incentive to go back each week or so!

I feel y'all on this one. That's why I shop at off times. The store is pretty empty on Thursday afternoon around 1-2. Also weekend mornings around 8 are great.

BTW, when there were for of us, I don't think we ever spent more than about $150 per week. Of course we'd go out to dinner once or twice, order pizzas, get carry out a time or two, so $150 wasn't all of our food:o

I mean, why do they have to leave their cart in the center of the aisle
Those are the ones that bother me the most. Some days I just want to ask if they are really that oblivious to people around them, or if they really just don't care.

Not to mention that I seem to remember sometime last year, someone grabbed Snoopy's avacado's!  :teeth: Really! ::yes::

STAND BACK!! DON'T TOUCH MY AVACADO's!!

(Anyone else remember that??)

What I wouldn't give to shop in a grocery store that had free daycare. That was one of the few perks of unemployment. Shopping in the middle of the week, early in the morning and the store was peaceful and quiet.

I hear ya!!

I love to push my cart down the aisle only to be stopped by someone leaning over to look at something with their cart all askew. Then when you try to go around, someone coming the OTHER way stops their cart right next to the other persons cart thoughtfully creating a people dam. Now the person coming up the aisle sees me trying to get by but they stop anyway try to decide which cookies to buy. They stop..look..pick up one package... put it back..pick up another.. turn around call to a friend/kid/spouse to come and see... All the while I'm just waiting to get past.

And then you have to say "Excuse Me" REALLY LOUD about 4 times before the person leaning over hears you and jumps up.. OH SORRY! you would think if they were as nice about saying sorry they would also have some forethought about zoning out over the sweet rolls.... but I guess not!

I love grocery shopping.

Best times to go are really late at night or very early in the morning when the doors open.

When I go, I never expect to get out of there fast and I already expect to encounter rude people. I'm rarely disappointed ;) So I make it a habit of smiling at them, saying excuse me when I need to get by, if they apologize I smile back and say No Problem.

I love the self checkouts, but if I don't use one of those, I try to make eye contact and conversation with someone in front or behind me ("Wow, a whole cart of cat food, that's one lucky cat!" or "Looks like you're having a cookout, I think I'll come to your place for dinner.") I also make sure I speak to the cashier and try and make them feel better.

This is one reason I love to shop late at night on weekdays. It's a lot less crazy.

I got sick of dealing with the people who seem to be renting out space in the aisles and give you nasty looks or ignore you even when you politely say "excuse me." Then there are the kids playing catch with paper towels, little ones running amuck with their kiddie carts, people who leave their carts at the end of the check-out (for you to move), groups having reunions and not moving over, people who leave their cart behind my car in the parking lot, people sticking theirs carts up my ............ and so much more.

Shopping late is a pleasure. Even the staff seem to enjoy it more too.

Yes, and there are certain people that I seem to always bump in to that is very inconsiderate.
