When you first arrive at WDW - What makes you think "we're here"!

1. Driving under the Walt Disney World sign.

2. Driving up to the Boardwalk and saying "Welcome Home"

We drive in on I-4 from Tampa and there is a electical pole shaped like Mickey's head right before the Disney exit that always gets me excited!

We call it the "Mickey Head" My DD8 always spots it first - it's a contest at mile marker 62!

(we're also from Tampa)

That's it - thanks!

Several sights & sounds,

1. Riding the tube when we fly into MCO, and feeling the Florida Humidity, that tells me almost there.

2. When the bill boards change from green to the purple Disney colors, tells me where on Property, YEAH YEAH

3. When we take the monorial around the 7 seas lagoon and listen to the recording as we travel around the track, having dinner our firsbe a character meal or a unique Disney Reatraurant.

(1) The Mickey-shaped electrical pole (thanks for the picture!)
(2) The Tower of Terror billboard shortly after entering Disney property (I don't know why, it just stands out in my head).
(3) The purple road signs
(4) And on our last trip, I got teary-eyed when I stepped off the monorail at the MK on our first morning to hear Mickey opening the park followed by the Mickey Mouse Club March (I was especially emotional because we arrived the day after Hurricane Frances, and we didn't even know if we'd make it down there!).

When I get on the monorail at MCO - the only reason I'm in Orlando is to go to WDW. That and going through the entrance gate. Then I KNOW I'm at WDW.

I love seeing the big purple sign with Mickey welcoming us that says "Welcome to the Walt Disney World Resort." But, I hate that sign when I'm leaving that says "See You Real Soon."

I totally agree. :D

Three steps for our family's excitement:
Seeing and driving under the purple signs that tell us we are leaving reality is our first step to excitement. The kids make little screams in the car and mom and dad look at each other as the most blessed people in the world. Then we spot a monorail cruising by.
But the real excitement hits when we actually wake up in the Contemporary on our first morning hearing the train whistle from the Magic Kingdom, and knowing that we are at Disney World.
Last step to excitement is walking into the Magic Kingdom and actually being on Mainstreet!
