When you ask for a day off from work,

We put it on a calendar when we need time off and only one person at a time can take pto. There are only 5 of us so it's important that we be there. when scheduled.Never have to put down why I want off for leave but my boss always knows I just an open person and she is a friend of sorts.

Where I work besides vacation and sick time, we also get 3 personal days per year . . .BUT you figure that personal days are used at the employees discretion . . .I mean, why do they call them personal days if you have to explain why you want one? We are not allowed to take our personal days the day before or after a holiday . . .I cannot understand why as it is a personal day, not a sick day . . .

I have a very stressful job, but one of the joys is that my supervisor is very much like me in alot of respects. We can only take time off if we have accumulated leave, so you have to save some up to take off whenever you like. If I want to stay home to spend the day at an amusement park with my kids on the Friday before school starts, she tells me to have a good time. If I want to take an hour of leave to get to the grocery store before it starts snowing, she doesn't say a word. She and I share alot in common when it comes to family/home/church, etc....so she understands whenever I ask to leave for something. Since I cannot take time off without having leave time, I always get paid and I'm responsible for my own work so no one has to cover for me. It's the one thing about my job that I most appreciate. Now that I see this in "print" I'm going to be sure to tell her on Monday how much I appreciate that.
