....What do you do? Do you end up splitting your stay? What if you're staying for just a few nights? Do you just end up with moderate cause it's less expensive or do you just go for the deluxe for better ammenities?

Telly

If I can't stay in the deluxe, I just go with the Values saves money on quick trips.

I am in that situation now. We are not staying long enough for it to make sense to split. Plus, the dining plan looks like it will save us money, so I really want to go w/a package. For right now I will have to crunch numbers and evaluate how much time we will be at the resort and see which one makes the most sense for us.

I know what you mean. I wish I could just decide between Pop, Por, CS, or AKL and live with the consequences. One thing I won't do anymore is split-stays. I know lots of folks like them, but having done this more than a few times, I will do anything to avoid it unless the stay was over one week. I think for a shorter stay, I would choose the value. For a longer stay, a mod or "deluxe-light." I am pretty sure my days of staying at the Polynesian are over. I just can't see myself shelling out that much change, having stayed there 4 times already. But I guess part of the fun is in the picking, but right now, the clock is ticking... decisions decisions.

*oops, just noticed the OP was trying to decide between mod and deluxe, not value and mod* sorry

We are staying in a moderate this time, I wanted to do a split stay between POP and the Poly. Unfortunately my DH, the Southern Thing that he is, saw the info on Port Orleans and begged to stay there instead :sad2: . On our next trip we are doing a split stay for sure. I really want to be closer to the parks we are going to the next time. ::MickeyMo

You know my answer. ;)

I have to agree with the person who said if you don't go deluxe, just go value. I have stayed at CR, BW, PO, AS-M, AS-S, and CSR. I was very disappointed with CSR. The place was sprawling and it was a considerable walk to get to the eateries - a real pain when traveling with little ones. In my opinion, the greatest thing about the deluxe resorts (aside from AKL) is the location - and that is what you are paying for. Boarding a bus (especially with strollers) is a BIG PITA! As amenities go - we are almost always at the parks anyway. So, to conclude - if no deluxe, go value. Moderate not worth the extra dough. You gotta' board a bus anyway!

We were torn for our upcoming trip. We needed to stay two nights somewhere before we started staying on our points. My husband told me to just pick someplace and be done with the stress. So I tossed around POFQ, AKL and BWV. Ultimately, I decided on BWV. He has always wanted to stay at Boardwalk, and we both generally prefer the deluxe category. I dont think it came down to moderate or deluxe for me this time, I think it was just a matter of trying to make us both happy.

I really wanted to go Deluxe this year because we have only stayed at Pop so far. Well I originally booked CSR then changed to WL then changed to WL and Poly and decided to finally settle on POR only to end up w/ the original booking of CSR. :confused3 Why, oh why, do we put ourselves through this? :rotfl:

Then when the free dining came out I thought I should really book AKL and stay deluxe since we were saving $. But DH and the girls said enough was enough to STOP THE MADNESS. So we're sticking with CSR.

Good luck and just go for what feels right without second guessing yourself.

Oh Telly...you are driving yourself nuts! You know you love POFQ...just stay there! that way you can justify your extra trip and not feel guilty at all!

Let's face it...you know darn well you will be staying at WL and Poly again. If you are going for a quick trip, just stay mod and enjoy the deluxes that much more the next time you stay there!

Anyway, that is my suggestion. You know I will support you with whatever you decide! :smooth:

I would stay at the moderate and save the extra money for stuff at the parks and DTD but that's just me.

For a short stay, I would go with a mod or value. Now, if I wasn't going to any theme parks I would go with a deluxe since I would be spending more time at the resort.

I usually make my decision based on where I've stayed before. I like to try all of the different resorts, so I try to chose one that I haven't worked before. If that doesn't work, I chose the one I can get an AP rate at :)

I'm trying to try all of the resorts once. Are there any that you're curious about but haven't tried yet? Your kids are old enough that you're not lugging strollers or anything, and they certainly know WDW by now, as you've gone multiple times like we have! If it's a budget question, I'd opt for the less expensive, so you don't get the post-vacation blues when the bills come pouring in! I figure that WDW is always going to be there, so I don't have to stay at a Deluxe every time. People are also saying that discounts aren't that plentiful this year. Have fun, whatever you decide! When are you planning this trip for? The season may help you decide which resort you'd like as well! :flower:

Thanks guys for replying.... I was just curious what you guys would do. When I'm in Disney for a short time, I try to not split. But when I am very unsure as to which resort to stay at, I just split the stay... and that solves the problem!

We faced the same dilemma several years ago and chose the WL. It is a deluxe resort, but is priced lower than the others (Possibly because it is not on the monorail, like the other deluxe MK resorts). For us, it seemed to bridge the gap between the moderates and the deluxes.

We absolutely loved it there and would highly recommend it. I'm sure that no matter where you stay you will have a magical time.

I would not split the stay... I'd pick one based on what I felt the budget for that trip could bear and live with it.

I adore the deluxes... but I'd want to make sure there was a certain comfort level in the budget to spend that extra $500 or whatever.

Three times this past year we have originally booked stays split between a moderate and a deluxe only to end up upgrading to just deluxe. When we start tallying up the cost of the trip, the additional cost for deluxe seems like such a small "drop in the bucket" to us. Of course, it hasn't been that many years since we had to watch every penny and cut corners everywhere we could. The moderates at WDW are so nice that I wouldn't book a deluxe if it meant forgoing TS meals and souvenirs for the kids.
