Hi all

We are a couple of different options for our May trip and I'd love some advice about whether there are any holidays over our dates or any dates to avoid?
Our options are all Monday - Friday:
5th - 9th
12th - 16th
19th - 23rd > this would probably be the one we are leaning towards so far!
26th - 30th.

Thanks in advance

Hi,
The public holidays in May next year fall on the 1st, 8th and 29th , so the week you are leaning towards is looking good!

Also, its school holidays from April 26 until May 11th for zone A (but this is not the Paris area).

hi, we went once at the very end of may and it was lovely...although slightly busier than I would have preferred. Really nice weather though :goodvibes . If it helps, we have a short school holiday from 22nd may to 27th may here in Shetland...I don't know if that is reflected across Scotland or not?:confused3 . And I think there may have been English or French or Spanish school hols, when we went in May , either that or it was loads of school trips :rotfl2: ?

Maybe someone on here will have been earlier in the month to let you know what that is like? I think from a weather point of view it's good :goodvibes

Ps Meant to say, that your preferred week looks good :]

Great, thanks a mill for the info. Id remembered Carrie had said there were a few holidays in May and hadn't a clue of dates! Thanks again :thumbsup2

I'm thinking mid May will be best as we are dependant on holy communion dates and they've been earlier in May lately - plus the 19th is my birthday, no more reason needed eh!? :cheer2:

Hiya K
Id actually forgotten we did a late May trip in 2010 :rotfl:
We got sunburnt and everything! Weather was beautiful and we had a similar experience with crowds - not midterm busy but still a bit (lot) busier then we would have liked! I think my DDs school with be getting holidays early May so we'll have to take DD and DS out for a few days :sad2: Does Scotland have the same new laws as regards attendance? We've escaped them so far in Ireland but if our government heard they could impose another tax or fine they would jump on that bandwagon Im sure!!

this site might help you http://www.schoolholidayseurope.eu/

it's school holiday dates throughout Europe

the ones with the most impact on crowds are UK, France, Spain and Italy

Hi, I've had a look there but I'd remembered Carrie mentioned something about May having extra bank holidays and that people take long weekends in May to use up annual leave so I was also meaning to enquire about that and if it applies this year? Sorry I should have phrased my 1st post better.

You're welcome!

Yes there are always lots of public holidays in May. I don't know about using up annual leave but as all the dates fall on a Thursday this year, most people will take the Friday as holiday and many firms will even shut down, which will definitely make it a long weekend for a lot of the population.

Great idea to go on your birthday!!

I agree, the later week looks better :)

We were there at the beginning of May last year and it was very, very busy ::yes::
