Where is this unemployment money that people keep talking about? What states have even received it from the government? Mine certainly hasn't. And speaking of the most vulnerable, how many are going to die because they're missing life sustaining medications since it's a choice between meds/food/rent right now? How many people are going to die because they have illnesses brewing that aren't being caught because doctor's appointments are canceled? This virus isn't the only thing that is threatening people, but go right ahead with your name calling if it makes you feel better.

MN unemployment filers have started to see the $600/week bonus money from the Feds. Supposedly we were first in the nation to see it due to our great unemployment IT. I know some states are lagging because of antiquated systems. Kinda funny since our MN Care & DMV systems suck.

I think mid May is when we still start to see the beginning of a return. It will probably take at least another 30 if not 60 or 90 until we see a significant sense of normalcy.

We are essentially 4 weeks into this and we already have at least 10% unemployment which is probably higher because of the backlog to process claims.

There is nothing wrong with talking about the economy while also understanding the importance of what is happening at this time. The only people who don't want to talk about the economy in relation to this are probably the same people that end up neck high in debt and wondering how they got there.

There is no order that you can’t go out for a walk or this or that anywhere. And even the mask orders aren’t enforceable. They can say to wear them.... but In the end. You can’t actually be made to. Now.

Unless you live on a military base. No admittance to the commissary or PX without a mask and MPs are sending people home who are out walking or exercising without one. If you are in your backyard, fine, on the sidewalks, no, you have to wear one. And we have 0 cases at Fort Knox. Rumor is that they are going to be shutting the base down to non essential (mail, deliveries) entirely but they haven't done it yet.

Other than nyc. No where is the masses flowing into hospitals sick. Or over flowing and no rooms for them. On the opposite side of it. There is literally empty hospitals. And if the elective surgeries don’t start soon. Guess who else goes bankrupt. The Hospitals. Come May those procedures will be back to happening. I know a co worker of mine has a scope planned for May 12. His doctor told him they would be back to doing that stuff by then. Even the doctors have to start working. None of this shutdown is sustainable but for a couple three more weeks or so. Just isn’t.

Well. That’s why all this will be ending soon. You can stay home if you want. That’s your choice. But the rest of the free world will be going back to work and life. The NBA will finish their season. MLB is starting. Racing will be back etc. And of course Disney will be opening all before the middle of summer. Just watch.
If anyone thinks these will go after say late May into June That won’t happen.
The churches here will be re opening May 1. The pressure has been massive and that’s a start also. Heck some have refused to close even now.

All I know is I’m sticking with May. If it doesn’t re open then. We’ll have millions just ignoring it anyways and revolt. No Governor wants to deal with that.. So sometime in May. Life goes on.

I'm a nurse who is actually working. I'm not involved in direct patient care anymore (though might get called back), but my job is tracking these cases. It is not over yet. I know you've been home and maybe your take on this is skewed to what you are experiencing. The sports oriented priorities listed in your post indicate a limited view of what's happening. So trust me - mission NOT accomplished yet.

I am a Professional firefighter Medic and we have been doing tje runs etc that the rest of the nations fire service has. We transport folks everyday that thins they have or do have the virus. Most have minimal symptoms. And some none. Some bad. Different for all. But we have also transported the guy that lost everything and was suicidal. So trust me. I’m out there and I know we are close to the end. You can feel it from every press conference. Folks will have to be getting back to work soon. Or the side effects will be worse than the virus.

Construction workers now need to be supplied masks and sanitizer among other orders.

Last week there was a mayor in Texas that was going to fine $1000 for anyone in public without a covering. His response was better that people go into debt than die. Not sure how that turned out (a bit extremist).

Then I hear of towns people revolting that if they must wear masks then the public must provide them.

Face coverings have become a distraction. It's really not that hard to cover our faces when around other people in public. Who doesn't have a bandana or light cloth? There's good reason to believe they can be one tool of many to reduce spread. Do you need it for a walk down a lonely road, no. Should we wear them in grocery stores and essential businesses, yes. It's something so easy that I don't understand the commotion. But this is coming from a perspective where cases are in every neighborhood.

Yep. And I’m still not worried about it. More of a chance to die driving to the station. And I’m possibly exposed to it every third day......
And your point is? It’s still 5001 on my list.

At this point I'm getting more pessimistic.
What I wish for is May 15th and see if there is a second wave and hope there's not.
I get the feeling its gonna be June 1st and then there will be a second wave and we have to shut down again and the whole year ends up being a loss.

I don't believe you. I've been working at the command center with several LEOs and firefighters. They know we are far from out of the woods.

ETA: And not one firefighter I know calls themselves, a "Professional firefighter".

Lol. Well I don’t exist to make you believe me. If you think the lockdown last into July? I’ll sell you moon property. I’m sticking with May. Late May or early. But come June. That’s that.
As for the term professional. Is separates us from the vollies. Yes it’s a term used. At least in Ohio. So maybe you know a lot of volunteers. Cause no. They are not professional.

I can’t wait until it’s commonplace that everyone committing a crime includes a description “wearing face mask”. For that reason alone I hate ‘em. I get it, and I have one I’ll where out of courtesy to others but I’m really not interested in living somewhere where I can’t see other people’s faces — I like to be able to see “happy” & “sad” & “angry” — it helps me judge the safety of interacting with others.

These things have been going on for years. It didn't just start with social distancing and it isn't going to end if we quit social distancing. Our medical system is in need of real reform. Our social safety net has been dismantled. I've seen very few speak up about these things over the years and seen these things greeted many a time with thunderous applause. The fact remains that we have the means to take care of anyone that needs medicine or food. It appears to me that what we lack, as a nation isn't the means, but the will. That is not the fault of social distancing nor is ending it right now going to change that.

We work. 24 on and 48 off. Plus lots of Overtime. So Try again on the insult.
That’s the common schedule of a Professional firefighter. Hence. The profession added term.
