I've been watching the NY Governor's daily news briefings every day. He's been warning us every day that we could and should expect a second wave, if we let up any time soon.

Today, while saying it does look like we may be flattening the curve, at any time, due to our behavior, it could go back up or we have a second wave.

No way in Hell is he opening NYC anytime soon, no matter what anyone else says or does. He said a quote today by Winston Churchill:

Any news source. Even in nyc. New Hospitalisation is way down. In the West it’s been way down. Things are definitely on the down swing. There are literally hundreds and hundreds of hospitals that are near empty due to no elective surgery.

OMG. Yes, they are holding off on elective surgeries to keep beds open. Ask any critical care nurse if their units are empty. This is a dangerous way of thinking and irresponsible to downplay this.

It's easy to just keep saying this doom and gloom stuff, but what's the solution? Just open everything up? How is that going to help the economy? It's not a simple choice.

MOST (not everyone) people are just fine right now. Many are still working either at their physical location or from home, those that have been laid off are likely to start being paid more than they were while working. This idea of people revolting over protecting our most at risk citizens because the weather is going to be nice soon is childish, selfish behavior

Where is this unemployment money that people keep talking about? What states have even received it from the government? Mine certainly hasn't. And speaking of the most vulnerable, how many are going to die because they're missing life sustaining medications since it's a choice between meds/food/rent right now? How many people are going to die because they have illnesses brewing that aren't being caught because doctor's appointments are canceled? This virus isn't the only thing that is threatening people, but go right ahead with your name calling if it makes you feel better.

Other than nyc. No where is the masses flowing into hospitals sick. Or over flowing and no rooms for them. On the opposite side of it. There is literally empty hospitals. And if the elective surgeries don’t start soon. Guess who else goes bankrupt. The Hospitals. Come May those procedures will be back to happening. I know a co worker of mine has a scope planned for May 12. His doctor told him they would be back to doing that stuff by then. Even the doctors have to start working. None of this shutdown is sustainable but for a couple three more weeks or so. Just isn’t.

Weird move by Cuomo. Guessing he's just thinking the mayor is treading on his territory.

I mentioned in the NYC Schools Closed, thread that the Mayor can't make that decision on his own. There are so many people who live/work in NYC but may live/work somewhere else throughout the tri-state NY/NJ/CT and L.I. area that the are affected by school & business closures. The Gov. will be talking to all of them, as well as the Govs. of NJ & CT to either keep the businesses & schools closed together, or WHEN they begin to reopen, start to reopen them in a coordinated effort together.

Glad you're thinking cash before people.

How is stating that in some parts of the country the number of corona cases are declining irresponsible?

The virus travels so everyone's impact will be at different times. It doesn't mean it's ok to let our guard down. I know you want to get out of the house, but it's much bigger than that.

No doubt they have been slow to roll it out. New York and Illinois are the only ones I believe that are already receiving the UI. Other states are saying starting this coming week the extra $600 will go out. But, this is retroactive to the beginning of April, so when they do come it should include all the previous payments that should have been received.

I never said the virus is the only threatening thing, I clearly said that not everywhere is in a great spot right now, but most are fine. There is no choice available where everyone will be a winner.

As to the name calling, the people that say they are going to be revolting against this aren't saying it is because they plan to go to the doctor, they are saying it because it's going to be summer and they don't want to stay inside when the weather is nice. Those are the selfish ones, not you specifically.

I think May will see restrictions loosened, but not all of them.

Depending how that goes, June might see more loosening.

Each month is buying time to learn, learn, learn!

As for a second wave... I have confidence we can get control between advances in treatment/prevention and having the best plans in place. But it also wouldn't surprise me to see a resurgence next flu season. Hope it doesn't come to that.

They go hand in hand. People can’t survive without their livelihood much longer. Didn’t matter if you are a physician or a worker at a department store. We are close to the end and folks will go back to work. People have their lives to live. People can’t have their financial lives ruined. And there is only so long they can go like this.

My guess is that it will start small with certain businesses being allowed to open back up with employees wearing masks and practicing social distancing starting May 4th. They'll watch it for two weeks and decide if they can send more people back. I don't anticipate restaurants having seating or churches etc. being able to open until maybe July.

Well. That’s why all this will be ending soon. You can stay home if you want. That’s your choice. But the rest of the free world will be going back to work and life. The NBA will finish their season. MLB is starting. Racing will be back etc. And of course Disney will be opening all before the middle of summer. Just watch.
If anyone thinks these will go after say late May into June That won’t happen.
The churches here will be re opening May 1. The pressure has been massive and that’s a start also. Heck some have refused to close even now.

Any smart person that works at a department store should not want to go back to work right now. They are about to make more money than they were while working through July, all while not being at risk everyday.

There is no order that you can’t go out for a walk or this or that anywhere. And even the mask orders aren’t enforceable. They can say to wear them.... but In the end. You can’t actually be made to. Now. I’m all for people doing what they want as to wearing them. Free country. There may be some wear them all summer and that’s fine. I support that. I choose not to. But we all have different feelings as to our own safety.
As for the National Gaurd. For that to happen would be Martial Law. And I can assure you that will never happen.
Yes the military is being used for humanitarian efforts and medical. . But once that line is crossed and they actually arrested someone simply walking down the street. Look out. Time to call in the A team. Lol
Nope, not the A-team. I’ll be calling the X-men.

Saying this over and over doesn't will it into existence.

NY and PA are doing it, and all other states will be in the next week or so. The vast majority of those who have lost their jobs will be making more money for the next 3 months than they were making before they lost their jobs. And they can't spend that money, so the vast majority of those people will be able to pay all of their bills on time by the end of April.

There is absolutely no reason for doom and gloom. If we are still in this position in 2 months then it will be time to worry. For now, America is fine. Some are very ill, and some are hurting financially, but the vast majority will be just fine.
