When will san angel inn re-open??

I was told by my travel agent that San Angel Inn is closed for reservations...Does anyone know when it will re-open? We will be in Disney june 12-19, 2009...We would like to get a reservation there...My kids love Mexican food, so I thought this would be a great experience..If someone has facts(not rumors), i would greatly appreciate it...Thanks!!

First of all, Welcome to the Dis I can't answer your specific question but I will toss one thought your way. On this board the San Angel Inn is one of the most reviled eateries in WDW. People complain about the menu, and the size & quality of the portions. You'll see comments to the effect that this place wishes it was as good as Taco Bell.

The place is absolutely beautiful in its theming. If the food is lousy, the atmosphere is among the coolest in all of WDW. I've eaten there several times since Epcot opened, but the most recent was about a dozen years ago.
I didn't think it was *that* bad, but I've always been so enamored with the ambience maybe I wasn't paying too much attention to the food.

San Angel is scheduled to be closed for renovations starting on May 10th. I don't think Disney has ever renovated a restaurant in under one month (see Nine Dragons). I wouldn't count on eating here.

And as PP noted, you're not missing anything if you love Mexican food.

I tried to make a reservation there for the last week in June and was told it was still closed. I don't think they've announced when it will be opening back up.

As of right now only the restrooms are closed for refurbishment.

If you had your heart sent on eating in Mexico, you can always go for the Cantina de San Angel, counter service eatery outside. Other than the theming of the inside restaurant, I prefer the food from the Cantina.

I called last Sunday and was able to make an ADR for 6/22. Hope it really is open again by then!

That is really weird because I called and got reservations for May 12. Should I call them back to check?

Just called Disney Dining and they said that my May 12 reservation was still a go. She said that the refurbishment must have been pushed back otherwise I wouldn't have been able to make the reservation and someone would have called me back.

Yikes! I made an ADR last week for a party of 9 for the week of June 15, and the CM neven mentioned anything about possible closure due to refurbishment.

I hope this doesn't mess us up for TS that night since we're doing DDP -- we can't just walk into a TS with 9 people if San Angel doesn't pan out!

I tried to get dinner there for June 6 and they said it was closed for refurbishment.

We loved our lunch there, the food was very good but the ambiance is what won us over

I think the food at the San Angel Inn is great, especially the Mole Poblano (only on the dinner menu) and the Tortilla soup. You have to know going in that it is not your typical Tex-Mex you won't find tacos, burritos, or enchiladas on the menu. I think a lot of people are disappointed because that is what they expect from the Mexican restaurant. It is my DH and my Mom's absolute favorite restaurant at Epcot. The atmosphere is great. I know that it was supposed to close on May 10; they did not know for how long; and that they were not accepting any reservations from that time out. The unconfirmed rumor was that they were finally going to build a Tequilla bar that they have been talking about for a couple of years. If they are now taking reservations for May and June, it sounds to me like whatever their plans were, they have been put off.

I enjoyed it when I went last time and was disappointed it would be closed this trip. I love the interior and atmosphere and I am sad I will be missing it- I will be making a beer and nachos stop across the way at cantina.

ETA_ re-reading-wait Wait they ARE taking ADR for may? I missed that, shoot its nearly 10pm, Ill have to call in the morning.
