Hi all...

I know I'm relatively new here, but the outpouring of generosity on this site is prompting me to post this.

Let me just give you the short version of the story. In December I found out I had thyroid cancer. Had surgery a couple of times, then went through radioiodine treatments in January. No sooner had I swallowed the big pill than I came down with shingles. I've been dealing with those for over three weeks now.

And now this....

Yesterday I found out they are closing my office and I'm loosing my job. I feel like someone just knocked my feet out from under me. DH (who really is a sweetie and I'm very lucky to have him around:love2: ) keeps telling me that I've been very unhappy here for a very long time so this really is for the best. I know he's right and that in the end everything will work out. But still I feel sad.

So I'll welcome any advice you might have. I've been with this company for 17 years so I'm rusty on hunting for a job. And if there's any extra PD sitting around......

Thanks for listening!

Are you able to collect unemployment while you try to find another job since you weren't fired? I hope that things look brighter for your future. Take care and pixie dust is headed your way.

YIKES! That is a lot to handle!

Will your current job be offering any job placement service to you? There are agencies that you can use that will help you with your resume, going so far as to video-tape you in mock interviews & coaching you. My brother got laid off and was given this type of service as part of his severance package.

Hang in there!

Wow you've got a lot going. I just wanted to send you PD and hugs. You Dis friends will be here to support you.

Duchie, you've had your share of difficulties lately.

I hope things start to look up for you in the near future. I'm sending hugs and pd your way!

Thanks, everyone!

I will be getting a severance package that's equal to 22 weeks of salary, and they are giving us some resume and interviewing classes but no placement assistance. And I will be eligible for unemployment. So there are lots of positive aspects, and any other time this wouldn't be so bad.

Thanks for all the hugs, prayers, and PD. I sure do appreciate them today!

I wish you the best of luck. I know about losing a job. I was let go after 25 years with the same company. (small insurance agency) They could not afford to pay 3 people & 1 had to go, which was me. However, on the brighter side, I got a new job within a few weeks and have increased my salary more than I could ever had if I stayed where I was. So, your DH is right. Things happen for a reason.

So sorry to hear about your problems. The only bright spot is that you have your husband there for moral support. He sounds like a great guy. Good luck in the job hunt.

So sorry to heqar that, Duchie. You do have a lot on your plate for sure. Make sure you have your health insurance, hopefully through your hubby's workplace. My very best wishes along with remembering you in my prayers.

Off topic...did they warn you about intimacy with DH after you took the big pill? They told my mom to avoid it for a week. Then later, dad turns up with a very under active thyroid. Mom read later that the radiation can stay in your system for a year. Now they both take the same dosage of synthroid!

No advice, but when something like this happens I like to think that it is all for the best because something is better waiting around the corner. Will keep good thoughts going for you.

That all stinks! If I were you, I would look for a great job, tell them you can start in two weeks and use some of that severance for a nice, on the cheap if necessary, trip to Disney World. Sounds like you could really use it. In the mean time-- PD, PD.

Dan, we are in the process of switching insurance. I had carried it for the family because the package from my employer was just a little better. I'm concerned about his coverage excluding the "pre-existing condition" (the thyroid thing) and not paying for it, so we'll have to see.

Momof2inPA, I'm with you! I've been saying for weeks I need a vacation to WDW!!! ::yes::

Missypie, yes they did warn me. Nurse Kathy (my sister) even helped me with lots of research before I swallowed the big pill. Hadn't heard that about it lasting a year, though - I took a LOW LOW dosage, but I'll have to look into that....

With friends like you folks, things are definitely looking up!:smooth:

I don't have any advice, but I'm sorry you're going through so much right now.

I don't have any advice either... just wanted to send a

From me too.

I hope you are strong and healthy and find a new job that will be better than the other one.

About the thyroid, what were your symptoms?

Cathy

I've found out too that when it rains...boy does it pour! but just remember there is a rainbow at the end of the rain...
(((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))))))))) to you and hopefully you'll find a great job soon!

Lisa
