When will I40 reopen between Knoxville and Ashville?

I always like having an alternate route planned between SW MI and WDW/Daytona. Last year we went on I40 between Knoxville and Ashville. Apparently, several months ago there was a rock slide and the road has been shut down ever since. The official NC DOT website just says it will be open in several months. Any locals out there know anything more specific than that?

Never mind...I found that they are guessing sometime in March.

And that is a DOT estimate, I would think maybe more like April, but the weather will have a lot to do with it. If we have a lot of rain or freeze thaw cycles it could slow things up by making the mountain even more unstable.

That is the epitome of ignorance is bliss...Last year we drove through the mountains, mainly at night, and saw the watch for falling rocks signs. I didn't even think the entire side of a mountain might come down.
