When will I learn?

I am so mad at myself today. :sad2:

We had a huge work event last night. It was a basically college fair for high school students with learning disabilities. I am the chief organizer/planner for the event; I work for months on signing up exhibitors, getting financial and advertising support, publicizing the event, making arrangements, etc.

It's a huge undertaking that culminates in a three hour event where I need to thank everyone for participating. Of course to meet all those people, I want to look nice, so I got my hair and nails done, and bought a new outfit and shoes.

If I have learned nothing else in my 47 years, it's that I need to wear broken-in shoes when I'm going to be on my feet for hours. I have a very good pair of Bass shoes that would have matched my outfit. But nooooo......I had to wear a brand new pair of leather and snakeskin flats.

Got them the other day. They're so pretty! They fit fine and probably would have felt fine if I wore stockings with them. But stockings are so passe, so I wore them with bare feet, and now I have horrible scrapes on the backs of my heels. :( I can't even put sneakers on; I'll be wearing clogs for at least a week until they heal.

I feel so stupid! I had to know new shoes without stockings would wound me. I have such sensitive feet and the older I get, the more delicate they are. When I was in my 20's, I could put anything on my feet and hike around pain-free. Now I can't wear high heels and need good arch support.

Getting old stinks, but having boo-boo's on your heels is the worst!

Oh man! That's the WORST. I used to be a dancer and I can remember wearing what we called "character shoes" (basically low black pumps) for special dances. My heels would bleed and I'd cripple around backstage, and I'd cripple around for weeks! I have the scars on my heels to prove it.

Moleskin next time! Now, treat your feet. Soak them in some hot water, then apply neosporin and a big band aid! Feel better!

I'm right there with you. I bought the cutest pair of 5 inch platform black suede pumps for DH's Christmas party which was SRO. About 3/4 the way through the night my toes went numb and I started slinking off to the bathroom so I could pop them off and cool my aching tootsies on the cold bathroom floor tile :rotfl:

Sometimes it is better to look good than feel good, it's in my girlie girl nature:goodvibes

That's how I got through the night. I'd feel the rubbing on my heels and look down at that beautiful snakeskin and steel myself somehow, but the pain today is unreal.

Well, FWIW, it was a very successful event. I'm very pleased with the turnout we got. The best part was that we got a lot of student volunteers to help out, and they were awesome. :)

The event was all about the kids we work to help and watching them help us to help them just warmed the bottom of my heart. :goodvibes:

Yep I'm right there, I know just how you feel. I used to work for a doctor, and had a couple of pair of 4 inch heels that I could wear and be on my feet all day in, of course if it was a long day I didn't dare take those puppys off or my feet would swell so bad I'd never get 'em back on. I think I'm paying the price now tho. I went shopping with oldest DD and found the cutest pair of what I call Ginger Rodgers shoes, I saved them up till I found the perfect dress and wore them to a special event. After two hours on my feet I was limping around and looked more like Gimpy Rodgers. Oh well at least my feet looked pretty for awhile.

It's great your event turned out and I'm sure you looked good for it. Sorry about the heels tho, be nice to your feet for a few days, they will thank you.
