When will '09 dates be released?

We are taking a 9 night Southern Caribbean cruise on the Norwegian Pearl with DH's side of the family during Thanksgiving Week 2008. The following is the itinerary:

Fri- Miami
Sat- Sea
Sun- Samana
Mon- Tortola
Tue - Antigua
Wed. Barbados
Thurs- St. Lucia
Fri - Sea
Sat - Sea
Sun- Miami

The ship alternates with 5 night Western Caribbean and this 9 night Southern Caribbean. Many folks also choose to combine the two for a total of 14 nights.

Just emailed DCL with a resort transfer enquiry and thought I'd ask about release dates (just in case someone spilt some beans!), got a standard response though:

Dear Meryll,

Thank you for your interest in a Disney Cruise Line Vacation!

Unfortunately, we do not have any information regarding the 2009
inventory. Our Guests have told us that, to them, cruising with Disney
is also about going to new places. So, in the long-term, we are looking
at a variety of itinerary options for the Disney Magic and the Disney
Wonder.

In early December, please check our website at www.disneycruise.com for
updates or call our Reservations Department at 800-939-2784 Monday -
Friday 8:00 AM - 10:00 PM (EST) or Saturday - Sunday 9:00 AM - 8:00 PM
(EST).

I would love that, I have done a cruise with Princess to Barbados and St Lucia and Martinique before, that was so good I went back to Barbados again for two weeks.

Tortola, British Virgin Islands has now been mentioned a few times, not sure if a replacement for something like St Marten, or an extended cruise.

We might know in a week.

What other ports in the Caribbean do we know?

The Med cruises for 10/11 nights were very popular, maybe repeat of that?

I really hope they go with some of the longer cruises, 7 nights seem short after doing 14 on the T/A Repo. I think 10/11 would be great. I'm looking forward to finding out what DCL has in store for us.:)

Thank you very much for your research and contacting DCL, I was also looking around the Internet.

http://www.britishvirginislands.com/
http://www.britishvirginislands.com/tortola.htm
http://www.britishvirginislands.com/vit_mapt.htm

But it isn't very up to date it lists cruise schedules for 2003 and 2004!

The longer cruises are popular, I like them, but I remember posts on this thread saying the great people of USA do not get long vacation times, and the longer cruises might be a problem.

I must say I prefer them,

14 nights repo in 2005.
11 Nights in the Med.
15 nights repo coming in 08.

The 2006 7 night seemed very short indeed.

Again early December so we are a week away!

This thread is very popular and a lot has been discussed I know people find it hard to look back on posts to find what they want. So TO SUMMARIZE -what we know, from the posts on this thread.

One of the other talking points is the longer than usual dry dock for the magic in 2008.

2008 Dry-dock Plans
The Magic will be in dry-dock September 6-27, 2008.

Now some have mentioned including the Dispodacst team this longer dry-dock might be to assist with modifications to the pool areas for a possible Alaska trip.

DIS-PODCAST

A few months ago have said Alaska Summer 2009
They also said the Wonder would do 3-4 nights and 7 night cruises in the Caribbean if the Magic goes on its travels.
No one else has confirmed this.

DCL AGENTS ON BOARD

Say cruises will start to be released early December, -that’s just a week away now, and they the ship will be closer to its home than the previous two years. various Caribbean ports mentioned such as Tortola, British Virgin Islands.

RESPECTED TRAVEL AGENTS

Have sent e-mails saying they think is the Caribbean.

ALSO NEW. More t/a’s have said they are being invited onto the ships for a big announcement in early December.

RELEASE DATES

we are told first 2 weeks of December, not sure if all of 2009 or just the first part.

Historically they have usually have started releasing dates in November for the first part of the following year, say January to April standard 3/4 Wonder cruises, and standard Magic cruises for 7 nights.

We are overdue, conjecture; DCL is negotiating now with Port Canaveral, they are unhappy with costs and restrictions on the port calls to keep their pier exclusive to DCL. Miami port has said soon they will sign up a big cruise line, Would DCL move to Miami or Tampa, its this a reason for delay.

Also possible port changes on the current standard cruises maybe a reason.

Many Castaway club members in the USA have also received the email regarding Hosting a Disney Cruise Party. This is on January many speculate that this email has something to do with the 09 announcements? Maybe the release of special summer Magic cruises, around that time.

PAST YEARS
The Special summer cruises have come out later,

FOR 2005 May 5th 2004
FOR 2007 April 3rd 2006
FOR 2008 January 31st 2007.

The summer 2006 cruises were double dips in the Caribbean.

Front runner:-

Caribbean special trips .Either East or South.

Fuel Prices

will the rising fuel costs make cruises cost a lot more?

SO what are you recommended to do?

Well do not panic! But some release will be out soon, not all but the start of 09.

Standard cruises i.e. 3-4 nights Wonder and 7 night Magic ones will not have a problem. For any special cruises:-

Register now with a specialist quality DCL Disney authorised travel agent, or keep you eyes on this board. There has always been an announcement and a tip off here first.

Dreams unlimited the sponsor of this board is an option.

You can book yourself direct with DCL by phone or website, but on ‘special cruises’ they have had long waits on telephones and the website has been under pressure.

Please do not instruct multiple travel agencies as in past years this has pushed up all the prices to all cruises supply demand and the cruises tier price system.

Release date time is often 8am but there sometimes has been a press launch at WDW or Disneyland and bookings opened up after that at 1pm EST.

Ok, I've been lurking on this thread and I have a silly question....

Will there be a big "announcement" on the DCL homepage when the 2009 dates come out, or will the 2009 dates just be in the drop-down boxes?

I'm looking at Oct. '09 and I really liked my stateroom this time - would like to get the same one again (it was connecting and I have family coming with again so I hope it all works out).

It depends, in the past the 'special cruises' have come with fanfare, press release at WDW or DISNEYLAND for MED or WEST COAST.

some standard cruises have just slipped out as you say with an extra toggle for the next year.

However you will see many new posts and new threads here as soon as DCL lifts is embargo on travel agents.

The T/a's are not allowed to comment before the release date, but will be told in advance, with a release of some properly next week, they most likely know now.

Posters to this thread recently have said there is a cruise coming where a number of respected Ta's have been invited to discuss the release of the 09 Cruises.

Most say Caribbean.

PS no silly questions here, for October you should be ok they do not sell to fast, bar maybe the Halloween one, but maybe best to instruct a T/A now if you have a favorite stateroom. GOOD LUCK.

Stay tuned to The Dis Boards. It will be announced on these boards in triplicate if not before, immediately after any official announcement. :rotfl:

Only triplicate? :rotfl2: it will be all over the place, with new threads, there are already a few of them, on 09 before any announcement, coming form all over the place.

The New York cruising come form this one, and some on booking longer cruises for example.

Has anyone been able to figure out which cruise this will be yet? It sure would help us narrow the waiting game time frame.

HI

Whilst we cannot be sure until DCL releases things next week, the balance of probability, has been pointing to one thing for the last few months.

Right after the DISPODCAST a few months back that said Alaska, I and a number of cruisers received an E.mail from a quality and respected DCL Travel agent saying, oh no it isn't, its the Caribbean.

Then a cruiser posted on this thread, Tortloa British Virgin islands, others quote ''closer to home'' and today another poster on this thread said a TA told her Caribbean.

So my money is on Caribbean, not Alaska,

I will repeat this as we have moved on another page and there is more info, now.

So will the 3 and 4 night cruises be the first to be released, with any special cruises possibly being announced but on sale later do we think?

And generally an 8am sale time?, eurgh well I'm not getting up at 3am every morning just in case!

We're only wanting a 3 nighter in November, so I don't imagine there'll be an overwhelming rush, but we have our eyes on one or two specific cabins with it being our honeymoon, so you never know, there might be some eager beavers up early, I could manage 8am but that pesky time difference does get in the way!!

Actually I'm doing the time difference the wrong way aren't I?
It'll be 1pm here at 8am there - now that I can deal with :rotfl:

Oh come on DCL....the wait is absolutely killing me. All I want are the prices so I can figure out if we can go. I would be so much more patient if knew how much it is going to cost me....

ENOUGH ALREADY! Please hurry up:hourglass

They usually release in this order:-

  • 3/4 Wonder cruises to April (09)-out November last time.
  • Then Magic to April (09)
  • Then full year Wonder
  • Then September to December Magic.

Finally Summer Magic special cruises, last year this was January 31st.

But they have not followed this pattern this year as the wonders 3/4 night would have been out by now.

So I expect a lot more released next week, bar the Summer Magic ones.
