When Was Your First TIME at WDW?

Like a PP, my first trip was in 1987. Took our 3 children 8,7, and 4. What's funny is that I had a "been there, done that" attitude about it when we got back. It was only when I was helping a friend plan her first trip with her family that I realized more and more how much fun it was. My biggest regret is that I remember when we went on the monorail several times and listened to the spiel about the new hotel they were building, the Grand Floridian-I should have taken a picture!

My first trip was an adult. Our family could never afford a trip to DL or WDW when I was a kid.
It was l977 and our kids were 5 and 7 y/o. We stayed off site at a wonderful resort that had a train ride for the kids that went around their large property. They had themed rooms and lots of Disney oriented things to do at the resort. I can't remember the name of it, but it's changed over the years.
l977 was when we all fell in love with WDW and that continued until 2020 - haven't been back since but we have some wonderful memories of WDW over the years.

When I was there in 1972 we stayed at Poly. You could go to the beach and swim in the lake. We also went to River Country which was their original water park. Anyone else remember that?
My second trip was with DH and our kids in 1994. We stayed at the Ft. Wilderness Cabins and did everything: three parks, River Country, Hoop Dee Doo Revue, Spirit of Aloha Luau, dinner at King Stefan's Banquet Hall. We even spent a morning investigating the Disney Vacation Club at what's now OKW. My avatar is the photo we got there.

Took our son in January 1974, before our second son was born, and we came back every three years through the 80’s.

Summer 1985. My parents took my nephew and I. My parents sat us down and told us we were going. I remember very little of that trip. I don't know why, I was 12. That started my parent's obsession with Disney, mine too.

1996 I think at 13yo. Did not return until I attended a wedding with my now DH in 2007 been 5 times since then

Our first trip was a great deal offered via email to stay at the new Pop Century. As a very young family with small budget - it was doable. The package came with room, tickets, flights, car rental, and a voucher to choose one of their dinner shows. We had a great time but the whole trip was built around our toddlers, sticking to their schedule and interests.

Years went by and the kids were in middle school. Decided to go back before they ‘got too old for Disney’. THAT trip was the kool-aid. They were old enough to want to do everything and we were young enough to keep up! It was amazing as we discovered the parks together. Rope drop to park closing day after day and boundless energy to do all we could. The last day we got a text about flight delay right as we were leaving a park to hit MCO. 3 hour reprieve granted. We all jumped up and down and hugged. The Disney Magic.

We’ve gone every year since. The kids are now old enough to drink and venture off on their own. It’s our happy place now where we forget all our worries and let our inner kid out to play and be inspired.

2009...my first visit (45 years old...brought my 5 year old son...stayed at Wilderness Lodge....couldn't believe how nice and grand it was...I was more excited than he was! This Dec. will be our 5th visit...son is now 21 and in college.

When we arrived at the resort and entered the room....there was a Star Wars Basket for him on the bed.
He said, "Mom, Mickey Mouse knows I'm here!" Priceless! We still have the card from Mickey!

I had just graduated from high school. Our family took the auto train down. We stayed at the Poly. We were from Pennsylvania where the drinking age was 21. The drinking age in Florida was 18!! The Poly sold $1 drinks by the pool. Guess who bought themselves a drink or two? Another thing-outside, under cover by the pool, was a microwave oven you could use to reheat sandwiches you could buy at the pool area. I had never seen a microwave before.

May 1972. If you could zoom out on my profile pic, you would see Cinderella's Castle is in the background. I'm the toddler :-). First trip as an adult was in 2007 when my boys were 9, 5 and 1.

2012 with my husband and our older daughter. She was four at that time. We also brought my cousin along. We spent the most magical week at The Polynesian.

1982. I was five. I remember that I loved the Swiss Family Treehouse, 20,000 Leagues, Peter Pan, and Small World. I was slightly obsessed with the Treehouse, watched the movie, and eventually read the book. I still remember feeling really sick after Tea Cups, so I never rode it again. I don't get much motion sickness, so I suspect I had just eaten. 😂

I also remember that we didn't ride Dumbo because the line was too long and my parents said it wasn't worth it. When my kids were little, we always rope dropped it, and I rode it during the fireworks right before they moved it. ❤

August 1978. We vacationed at Daytona Beach in 1969 when I was 10 and remember my parents talking about a ‘new Disneyland’ being built somewhere in Florida. 😁
