When Two Holidays Collide! An Oct. 2012 PTR UPDATE 6/30 Disneyland stuff

Sounds like another awesome (and busy) day. I have never overhead anyone complain about unused fastpasses but have seen plenty of meltdowns. We were so lucky not to be a part of any on our last trip. Despite the fact that AK is my least favorite park, I still like to be there at least one full day. Some people can accomplish a lot more than we do in a short period of time, so I hope you do everything you want there. Your HS plans are all things we missed last trip. Not that 50’s is one of my favorites at all, but we may return there next trip.

I try to have lots of plans, otherwise we would probably doing a lot of what do you wanna do talk. We might even split that up into 2 days, not totally sure yet. True story about the fastpass, it was back in May 2010. DH and I were taking pictures in the Oasis when a dad with his 6 or 7 year son were in close enough range to hear them. There was something about the kid being tired and dad missing his FP time for EE to take the kid back to their hotel. I think they have so many meltdowns there because of the heat from lack of shade in AK, it just makes people irritated. We also didn't do too much at HS last trip, no rides just 50s, Fantasmic, and Osbourne Lights. I wish we had taken Peyton to get more character photos, even if he was sleeping, I'm going to do them no matter what this time. It's so funny because DH never wanted to eat there because he didn't think he would like the "shenanigans", but I finally talked him into trying it 2 years ago, now he has to go there every trip. He orders the fried chicken with extra collard greens:scared1: this is the face our "cousins" usually make when he asks for extras.:rotfl2:

I'm excited to read your plans since I am travelling for the first time with my little one. :)

:welcome: Traveling with a little one is the best. I definitely appreciate WDW more now, just because each time it's like seeing it for the first time through a little one's eyes.:grouphug: I think my favorite thing was seeing Peyton being held by his daddy and them watching Illuminations together, he loved the fireworks.

Well, I don't have a crazy down to the second itinerary for DL like I do WDW. I really like to just go with the flow when it comes to DL. I have a list of things I want to do down there, but everything else will be playing by ear.

We will be in the parks for 3 days (Friday, Sunday-Peyton's birthday, and Monday). Saturday, we are trying to decide on an activity out side of the parks. So far on the list are Sea World, the Aquarium of the Pacific, or maybe an Angels game (have to find out if they're in town). Still trying to decide which day to do our 7am "Magical Morning", we'll see how magical my boys are at 7 in the morning.:rotfl2:

The first thing I want to do when we get into DL is to go get him mouse ears at the hat shop by the Opera House and they must be from that hat shop. Why you ask, I am a very sentimental person. Back in 2001, that area was just a big lobby that people would exit the theater from. DH was able to arrange with CMs to have Mickey and Minnie looking on as he proposed. He says it took several days of convincing CMs that I would in fact say yes. I guess they stopped offering this service several years before because apparently, it's common for the girl to say no:eek:. Okay, back on track, so the CM got Mickey and Minnie to go into the lobby as DH brought me in and proposed. Just in case you couldn't figure it out, I said yes.:rotfl: Fast forward 11 years and that lobby is now a hat shop. I never dreamed I could get my baby mouse ears in the same place his parents got engaged.

Here's the things that we want to hit:
*IASW (funny story, I sing the theme to P to get him to go to sleep and it usually works, hopefully he doesn't want to go to sleep on the ride:rotfl:)
*POTC (my favorite, any time that I can see Jack Sparrow:rotfl:)
*HM
*Cars Land (interesting to see what the waits are going be)
Well, I guess we'll have wait and see with Cars Land now that the "family rides" now have a 32" height requirement:headache:
*Little mermaid
*Jungle Cruise (if we can make our way through Adventureland)
*Ferris Wheel
*Roger Rabbit's Cartoon Spin (Mickey is a big Jessica Rabbit fan)
*Mickey and Minnie's Houses
*A Bug's Land (let's ride the chew chew train!)
*Aladdin
*Dumbo
*Alice in Wonderland
*Mad Tea Party
copy3.jpg

Fireworks, looking forward to seeing Dumbo!
copy1.jpg

Fantasmic, hopefully "Murphy" is working this time.

We only have two reservations:
copy2.jpg

This will be on P's birthday. We get a free character meal included with our Costco Travel package. We're going to have Carnation Cafe on Monday for breakfast, hoping Chef Oscar will be there. We also plan on eating at House of Blues and Rainforest Cafe, not sure where else yet.

There's plenty of treats I miss having at DL and I want to try to fit in as many as possible.
*Chimichanga-I really wish they would serve these in Florida, they are so good!
*Clam Chowder in a sourdough bread bowl-need I say more.
*Fudge-I do not like the fudge in WDW, it leaves a weird filmy texture in my mouth:eek: DL's is just so creamy and yummy.
*Hot cinnamon roll and iced blended mocha, I guess from the Jolly Holiday Bakery.
*A slice of pizza from Redd Rocket's-I wish WDW's pizza was this good.

*I'm also thinking about ordering a cake from DL for our dinner at Goofy's Kitchen. I'll probably call DL Dining in the next day or so to get the most up to date information on the offerings and prices.

Well, that's all I can think of for right now. Just have to sit and wait for 3 more weeks when we should be getting our travel documents.

Since the last pic of Baby P that I put onhere was when he was 4 1/2 months, I thought it was time to update.

Your plans for Disneyland sound great! And your little guy is just so cute! :goodvibes

That is so sweet that your DH proposed at DL!

I was just telling my DH tonight that we have to got to start pricing out trips to DL. I'm thinking of trying to get there sometime in the next few years. I'd really like to go check it out at least once in my life.

I think the cake sounds like an excellent idea! :thumbsup2

OMG!!! LOVE that story about your proposal...and now fast forward to getting him Mickey ears there....OMG!!

And the plans for AK look great...we can't wait to have some actual touring time there this time around...

Awe, thanks, he such a sweet baby!

I even have a Mickey engagement ring. We were supposed to fly down the day after 9/11, but we ended up having to take Greyhound as we didn't have a car at the time. In the commotion of everything going on, he left the ring at home, so he had to improvise.

Definitely got to do DL once. I priced everything separate and as a package, it ended up being the same price, but with the package, I ended up getting a $20 Disney Gift Card and a free character meal.:thumbsup2

This kid is going to be so full of sugar that week, we'll be doing his birthday party 2 days before we leave, so he'll have his smash cake. I'm going to be chasing after him with a toothbrush.:rolleyes1

Thank you, I'm very excited about this trip!:yay: Even though we love WDW, DL holds a special place in our hearts.

Even though it's not my favorite park, I miss it. It'll be almost two years since we've been there. Left time, I had bad morning sickness and we left the park early so I could go eat my dry cereal, watch The Brady Bunch, and take a nap back at the hotel.

I will comment in a minute. First, I want to give you the cake information, since I already got it for Connor via email. You can book through Disney Dining once you've made the meal reservation. The prices are higher than WDW.

I am just like you. Other than dining reservations (and a cake for this upcoming trip), I never plan much for Disneyland. We just go with the flow. So far, I have not done anything except book dining reservations and the hotel. I still need to set up the cake and an in room celebration or basket delivery. We leave 3 weeks from today, so I need to get on it. Your plans seem cool. I love that you are going to get Peyton a hat from the store where Mickey proposed. How cute!!!

DL plans sound great. We need to get back there someday with the little princess in tow. I can't wait to see Cars Land. Sounds like a great first birthday trip. Oh, and I love that you can get him mouse ears from the place you got engaged!

Great updated pics of Baby P...what a cutie!

Love the story about the proposal and the Mickey ears! How adorable is that?! What a great memory for y'all and for baby P. :goodvibes He is getting so big & so cute!

Your DL "plans" look great! That was what I really loved about visiting DL, we could make our "plan" the morning of. Or throughout the day. Or whenever. We enjoyed not having to have a scheduled itinerary of where we'd be every morning and every night. Although we were disappointed to miss Carsland, it was probably a good thing for our first trip because it meant we didn't have to have as much of a plan for DCA either.

Thank you for this information. I emailed DL and the only response I got was to call Disney Dining. This helps out a lot, I now have something to show DH. I was thinking a Lightning McQueen themed cake would be great, since we're doing Mickey Mouse Clubhouse theme for his birthday party.

I really hate planning for DL, I just enjoy the ambiance of being in DL. I could just wander around the park all day and be perfectly happy. Glad to hear that you were able to get the hotel booked. I can't wait to tell him the story behind the engagement when he gets older.

We don't get back there enough, it's been almost 2 years since out last trip there and before that, it was about 3 years. I miss it a lot, I just wish it wasn't getting so darn expensive to go there.:headache: I'm hoping to get him to wear the ears for a couple of photos, but he does not like wearing hats right now so...:rolleyes1

I'm glad everyone like hearing the story. I actually have another funny story about that. I had a co worker about 5 or 6 years ago that had just gotten engaged. We were all standing around talking about our various proposals and I told the story of mine. Well, this co worker was disappointed with her fiance's proposal after hearing mine and actually made her fiance propose to her again.:sad1:

I'm not sure how much time we'll spend at Cars Land now that we know he won't meet the height requirement. Unless, of course, he grows 3" in the next 6 weeks.:rotfl:

I'm hoping to get him to wear the ears for a couple of photos, but he does not like wearing hats right now so...
Neither of my kids would ever wear hats, even as infants. Hate is not too strong a word. I have a photo of my daughter in her first pair of mouse ears at 14 months ripping them off her head.

I bet I'll have that same photo of P:laughing:. I'm hoping he will get over it. I bought him a sun hat because he has such fair skin and I don't want to find out how easily he'll sunburn. I've got 6 weeks to get him to tolerate them.

DD - Tell them all about your DL wedding too. That was so much fun!:bride:

DD - Tell them all about your DL wedding too. That was so much fun!:bride:

Loved getting married at DL. We had our wedding at the poolside gazebo at Paradise Pier Hotel. It was a very small wedding, just mine and DH's immediate family. All the arrangements for the wedding were done over the phone, so there was no way for sure to knoww how itg was going to turn out. It turned out beautiful!

It wasn't without it's hiccups, like I was the first one ready and was waiting on everyone else to finish getting ready. And of course you know that the minute you put on your wedding dress, your bladder shrinks 2 sizes:rotfl2: so I spent a good hour in and out of the restroom.

The weather report for that day ease supposed to be 75 degrees, well it ended up being 94! and windy. I sure hope that weatherman got fired.:rotfl: I ended up not having enough pins to hold my veil in place, so the wedding coordinator had to lend me this big hair clip to keep the veil from flying off. Then the minister comes to tell me that DH is sweating, he must be nervous, um, no it's 90+ degrees outside and he's wearing a wool coat!

The ceremony was beautiful, I remember watching the video later and as DH is getting ready to say his vows, you can see him take a big gulp. I had to tease him and give him crap when I saw that. It was just too funny.

Now back to the hot weather again, it was so hot, that our Mickey and Minnie cake topped took a nose dive off the cake!:scared1:

We had our reception at PCB Grill. The food was very good. For some reason, I decided I wanted pizza. Luckily, I never got any on my dress.

Since we weren't allowed in the parks, we took pictures by the entrances to both parks and wandered around the World of Disney.

All in all, it was a very beautiful wedding.

A lot has change as far as weddings at DL go now. First off, they don't do the small, intimate ceremonies anymore. Their cheapest package is like $10,000 now! It's cheaper to do a wedding at the Grand Floridian! And the gazebo where we got married, well it's now a waterslide.:sad2:

We were hoping to do one of the vow renewal packages at the GF this year for our 10th anniversary, but when we heard it was going to be closed until next year, we scrapped the idea. Maybe we'll do it in a few years when it's our 15th anniversary. Hopefully, we'll have DVC by then and maybe stay at GF.

Sorry I don't have access to any pictures right now, they need to be scanned.

Sounds like you had an awesome wedding at PP. How nice!! I always have a small bladder, so I can relate to that issue. The Grand Floridian wedding chapel and beach were pretty tore up when you and I were at WDW. I even remember telling Crap that I would have been upset if I planned a wedding and that happened. I was upset that the spa was closed, and I never got my massage. An upset bride would have been worse. When you do renew your vows there, I hope it is back to its original beauty.

That was my first thought is I feel so for those brides that planned their dream wedding only to be told that they couldn't have it.:headache:

I can't wait to see everything when DVC is all said and done.

I am pretty sure they were still holding weddings. We got stuck behind the Cinderella Coach pulling a bride and groom when we took the bus back from one of the parks. I just hope a potential bride knew it was going to be tore up when she booked. When I booked my massage, no one knew. I got the call months after I booked, but just a few months before we left to say the spa was closed and my massage had to be cancelled. They took appts one year in advance, so I think I booked it about nine months early. If that happened to brides, it would be devastating to have to reschedule or deal with the way it looked. Hopefully, they offered discounts to the brides who kept their bookings.

I would love to see a DVC there (we're investing someday when we can afford it). I heard that is what people think they are doing. Is that for sure what they are doing then?

I was reading disneyfoodblog.com earlier and I came across the most amazing thing EVER...The Cupcake Crawl!

I love Disney cupcakes and I thought it would be a fun challenge. The challenge is to eat 7 different cupcakes on property and I know I'm still more than 4 months out, but I've already picked out the cupcakes I want, no, I am going to conquer.

1. Caramel Cupcake-Karamell Kuche, Epcot
imagesqtbnANd9GcSOqx23ojrdtNpE0uBOqe2INWiZij5nc46I370db5G4qFIagrNO.jpg

I still have yet to get anything from here, so why not a cupcake?:confused3

2. Peanut Butter Cupcake-Main Street Bakery, Magic Kingdom

4. Black Forest Cupcake-Contempo Cafe, Contemporary Resort

6. Butterfinger Cupcake-Starring Rolls Cafe, Hollywood Studios
imagesqtbnANd9GcSHF5rtk6j4uOnpiWWhVxtoYU-2ex-YRb3LXVh3f7inEOD5S_XCNg.jpg

This was my first Disney cupcake and I haven't had it in about 2 1/2 years, can't wait to have it again.

7. Mickey Mouse Oreo Cupcake-Everything Pop, Pop Century Resort
Oreo-Bon-Bon-Cupcake-350x524.jpg

Had this back in December and it was so good, not quite as big as the cupcakes from Starring Rolls so it's easier to finish. However it is very popular so I'll have to get it early in the day.

Alternate cupcake-The King Cupcake, Pop Century
The-King-cupcake-593x625.jpg

Chocolate cupcake with banana custard, peanut butter frosting and candied bacon. Cue Homer Simpsonpopcorn::

The only cupcake I won't try is the red velvet cupcake, it's good but I don't like toffee and of course there's quite a bit of it on there.

Any other cupcakes I should try?
