When TV shows jump the shark

I've got to disagree about Buffy. I think there was a couple of good episodes after Buffy came back. I think it jumped the shark when Giles left.

I completely agree about Grey's Anatomy. I know it's too soon to damn it because it will hopefully bounce back, but Izzie and George hooking up was a jump the shark moment for me.

L.A. Law--when Michael and Victor (and maybe somebody else? Can't remember) left to form their own practice.

ER--there's several moments to choose from, but I'll go with when Mark Green died (although I lost alot of interest when Carol left)

And then Roz fell down the elevator shaft!

I agree with Romano v. the Helicopter was bad but I think it has redeemed itself a bit.

Starting with the 2nd season of CSI:Miami, when David Caruso became a characature of himself, I mean really, what is with those sunglasses??? :sad2:

Cheers jumped the shark when Sam and Rebecca decided to create a baby together. Also when Lilith left the show to join the Biosphere. The scenes with Fraser just weren't the same without Lilith around.

Edit---I'm trying to recall when X-Files jumped the Shark. I used to love that show back in the day.

Before Dick Ebersol, there was a woman producer. Then there was Dick Ebersol.

Her productions were worse than the Ebersol period.
Jean Doumanian. She was usually referred to by her nickname, which was based on a woman's product that also started with Dou, if you know what I mean. She was fired before the year was out.

I wasn't going to type women product--and I coudn't remember how to type her real name. I also heard her described in many other ways as well. (none were Dis-friendly)

So MANY!!

Saved By the Bell: When they went to college!! Ugh!!

I thought it jumped during the season where they went to work at the beach resort...

Either that, or when it changed names from "Good Morning Miss Bliss... "

I think it jumped after season 2 when they started focusing more on Fox and Scully and less on the actual cases...

I liked the beach resort just not that Tori chick. :rotfl2:

On Ellen's TV show (the sitcom) when she came out to the audience... well for me, it was well.. now that the issue is here, what do we do with it? The writers had no clue what to do with it.
I have to respectfully disagree. I think the show jumped when they got rid of the first group of friends and replaced them and the title. Then, one of her new friends is the girl they based an entire episode on how annoying she was! I think her coming out was supposed to save the floundering show but, you're right, they didn't know what to do with it. I love Ellen and I couldn't watch her show. It was painful.

How about Gilligan's Island? No cousins, no replacement actors...can we say it never jumped?

Gilligan's was on the ramp to jump after the first episode. I could never figure out how the Professor could make an entire satellite system with coconuts but couldn't fix a hole in the boat.

Ok-- When the Harlem Globetrotters visited Gilligans Island, it officially jumped.

I think Sex and the City never jumped the shark.

I very much agree...it even got better in the last season! :thumbsup2

I don't think Seinfeld ever jumped the shark.:thumbsup2

I also agree...and Jerry has even said in interviews he always wanted to quit when the show was on top. He wanted it to be remembered that way so it wouldn't be talked about badly in just such a thread!
(and I do like the last episode)

One show that I think not only jumped the shark but started swimming with the sharks is ER. I haven't been able to watch that show for years now. In my own mind it was over years ago. Sorry to those who are still a fan!

that was going to be my response. It TOTALLY jumped when the Harlem Globetrotters came to their island.

My wife and I watch that show for the terrible acting on his part on the part of the extras. Not to mention the lame writing. Why is CSI answering a domestic call? Just in case there's a body there?

If Seinfeld's last episode hadn't been the last episode, I think it would have been in shark jumping territory. I liked the episode okay, but I've always thought that they shouldn't have gone to jail. In true Seinfeld fashion, they should have come out of their bad situation scott free.

Actually, the show was officially long over by the time this made for TV movie came out, so I don't really thinks it qualifies as making the show jump the shark. Also, the professor did fix the holes in the boat with an adhesive made from tree sap that Gilligan discovered, but ultimately it disintegrated the Minnow. BTW, love Gilligan's Island- can't you tell!:rotfl:

Thanks for the explanation.
The term "jumping the shark" originated from a Happy Days episode that had Fonzie jumping with water skis over shark infested waters. It was the beginning of the end for that show, the point of no return. Thats what it means - when a long running show starts to go downhill.

Oh, and then they made her into a little girl. What an ANNOYING child actor that was. Does anyone else remember this child? She had curly red hair and she was just sooooooo annoying.

I just saw a preview for tomorrows CSI... that growing paind daughter is on it... maybe you shouldn;t watch :happytv: :rolleyes1
