When to make first ressie? new to DVC, and this board

I didn't think that us newbies could make ressies until we closed. My guide said that the paperwork would probably come Dec 31st when I made my deposit on Dec 27th(Merry Christmas to me ) but it didn't come until Jan 3rd or 4th. The problem is that I'm paying but my mom and sister's names are on it also and it went to my mom's address which is also my sister and my permanent address needing all three of our signatures and to be notarized etc. Well, I drove the 6 hours backs to ME on Jan 2nd and my sister flew back to VA because we both had class Jan 3rd. On the bright side when mom called them about it, they said that they would reissue the paperwork so that the signatures could be added separately and would coordinate getting it to me in ME and to VA but its definitely going to drag out the process. I want ressies for a studio at either OKW or home(SSR) for May 29th-June 5th and for a 1 bedroom at SSR from Dec 18th-23rd. Due to my school and military commitments, I have very little date flexibility so the earlier I can make ressies, the better obviously. So in summation, if knows if you can make ressies before closing please let me know. On a side note, I would also love to rent 40 points to stay at HHI from 3/13-3/18. I have ressies for Marriott but given the chance to stay at DVC HHI, no contest.

If you have already paid your deposit to DVC, you are probably in the computer and are able to make a reservation. Your guide can advise you if that's the case. You do not have to wait until after closing for purchases directly thru Disney. (That's one benefit vs. a resale where you will have to wait until after closing to be in the DVC computer.)

Today I called and made my first reservation.

We just sent the paperwork back early last week. I was told at that time I could make reservation, but was waiting until I knew for sure if mom was coming (still don't know).

I called this a.m. and made my first reservation without any problems. (just a long wait).

Give them a call tomorrow.

Yes, we made our first ressie right after our deposit was made. You just will not be able to bank or borrow points until you close on your deed.

Me too. Put our $500 down on Friday and made my first ressie on Monday, so just call your guide and they will transfer you. Expect to hold for a while, though! Good luck!

Ok, I called MS this afternoon and got exactly what I hoped for- OKW studio from 5/29-6/5. 7 nights/8 days. I wanted OKW because its less points than SSR and I liked the 2 bed format for the studio. That way I'll have enough points for a 1 bedroom at SSR in Dec. I'm just in the process of buying in and am already planning adding on. LOL. DVC and Disney should be scheduled drugs for their addictive value. Thanks everyone for the advice.
