I am thinking about making a grocery stop before arriving at the Fort. I have read that you could fax your order to Albertson's and pick it up when you arrive. Has anyone done this? How far ahead did you fax your order? Thanks!:)

I guess no one on this thread has done it :confused3 I know I haven't, but it sounds like a good idea. I bet you could fax it in the morning of and it would be ready that afternoon.

Just hate to see an empty thread:sad2:

You are so sweet! I thought maybe my anti-slider comments on a previous thread got me shunned in the community. I will give Albertson's a call before I leave in late May and post my findings. Thanks!:goodvibes

Does Albertson's have Sliders?:confused3

I don't know about Albertson's, but I have seen in the not too distant past, Sliders ( gen-u-wine White Castle's) in a box in the frozen food section. I shudder at the thought.

I would think faxing an order in would be difficult unless you was just wanting basic stuff. They may not have the brands you might have back home and the chance of getting something you might not otherwise have chosen is fairly good. How much more time would it take to just go in and shop vs stopping and picking up the bundle.

Well, it's time away from enjoying your trip. We always stop on the way in when really, we just want to be there! Plus Albertsons has pretty much anything, even if you are brand loyal. They may even deliver~you may want to check on that!

I LOVE grocery shopping when Im out of town...it like going to Epcot.."Ooooo, we dont have THESE at home, I wonder if they're any good, get em, lets try em!"
Some of the state parks here in Louisiana are really tucked away deep in the backwoods little towns that wouldnt even exist on the map if it werent for having a state park.....you should see some of the stuff they sell in these lil, hole in the wall grocery stores. Everything from pickled piglips(not joking) to fried chicken gizzards!!! I dont know exactly what a gizzard IS, or what function it serves in a chicken...but dem's purtty durn tastey!!! You can get boudin at just about any grocery store here...but boudin from out in the sticks is UNBELIEVABLE!!!!. Boudin balls are even better!!! And ya havent lived until you've had Zapp's Crawgator Chips!!!
Yep, when ya grocery shop at home, ya just run in & grab the groceries...but in unchartered grocery stores...ya get ta SHOP!

Wow...I never realized how much I've always enjoyed grocery shopping till now while writing this...no wonder I've been fat all my life!!:cloud9:

Whoa! Hold on! It's a new wave in cuisine fads~fried chicken gizzards! Call "take home chef" and have him check out the sticks of Loooosiana!

Wow. I've been in the south too long. I actually understood every word you said.

yes, he is purty. and he can cook! Plus, with that accent, everything just sounds like it tastes so much better! I wouldn't want to meet him for ME, though. DD8 wants to be a chef (an environmentally friendly, will only cook "happy" animals w/o hormones and funk and "wild caught" fish, organic vegetables kind of chef), her favorite show is 'take home chef' and she watches it so intently!

Dang Rog, ya done went and made me hungry and me being on a frapping diet. Know what ya mean about those out of the way groceries. Years ago I use to captain oil supply vessels out of every mudhole in Lousyanna that they called ports. We would be forced to buy groceries from the local vendors and it wasn't really shopping. You bought what they had since there really wasn't much choice on the shelves. Sometimes on holidays, several boats would head up the river to a beach for a cookout. The boats with non Lousyanna crew would grill things you could identify. Those cajuns would cook things that you couldn't.

Dats cay-jons fo ya, shah. You probably wouldnt have recognized it before it got on the grill either.....YOU(the regular American) would see a strange critter roaming around on the ground and wonder "What the heck is that? Never even seen anything like that before!"......a cajun see's the same critter, takes off his white rubber shrimping boot and makes a clean kill from 35 yards with it, yanks the hide off and has it on the grill all within a 3 minute time frame.

I have done this! Actually, I've done it several times. I call the day ahead and tell them I'm faxing the order, then fax it and when I get there it's all set. It used to be bagged and totaled, but the last few times it's only been in the carriage (which they keep in a refrigerated space) and I still have to go through the checkout line. But it has always been quick, and a great way get a week's worth of groceries fast! (I also find I spend less, no spur of the moment purchases).

We called them white rubber boots, cajun deck shoes. They had two pair, one to work in and another pair to wear on special occasions.
