When to book Autotrain

So we are leaving 11/29 for Disney and returing 12/6. Is the autotrain another type of thing where you should book on certain days like airfare? Are there any tricks? I looked at autotrain about a month ago and round trip for my family was around 1500.00. Today it is saying 2200!!

Should I wait til it gets closer or does it get more expensive as it gets closer. I am thinking that traveling Thanksgiving weekend is going to cost me but due to a gymnastics meet i can't move my trip to 2nd week of December. I would go the week before Thanksgiving but I want to make sure all the decorations are out. I would hate to miss WL decorated for Xmas. That is one of the reasons we want to go.

Any ideas/tricks etc?

I would keep checking. Prices do fluctuate a bit.
Was the 1500 with sleeper (2 roomettes/family bedroom)? If so, 1500 is about the best you can do.

Another option is to book one-way if you can get around 750 and keep looking until/if the other way comes down in price.

At 2200 I would probably fly.

Yes, that is for 2 sleepers. Been looking around and airfare out of Philly is about 1400.00. I looked at Washington Raegan and it is showing non stop for about 900.00. Thinking we might just drive down there night before (2 hour drive) and fly out of there

Ugh...so many decisions and the fact that it is Thanksgiving weekend is not helping me any.

Thanks for the responses!! 1500 would be good cause I would get to take my own car...but 2200 is way out of the question.

The farther out you book, the cheaper. They have a tier system for prices. Once a tier is sold out at a price, it goes to the next tier of pricing. We're going on the AT on 31 Oct and booked our tickets 2 months ago. It is not like airlines so don't wait thinking the prices will drop.
