Rapriebe: I live in NW FL, so I am not sure what the local Orlando schools are doing. Escambia and Santa Rosa were scheduled for a week fall break OCT 4-7, but the kids have been out of school since the day before Ivan which was Sept 14. They do not go back until OCT 11. One month of stir-crazy children who do not understand why the Dish Network doesn't work!!
I had planned this Disney trip before the hurricanes, so I have been watching The Weather Channel quite faithfully!
I'm not sure if or when South Florida takes a Fall break. I know when I went on the
Disney cruise last year at this time, there were LOTS of families from NW FL going on the FAll break. It is so depressing around here, many more may decide to head to Disney, but on the other hand, there are so many here that were greatly (and unexpectedly) affected by the storm, they may not be able to go.
Many were caught unaware with Ivan. He came ashore with high tide and flooded places far inland that had never flooded before. I mean, if a 30-40 foot wave could take the I-10 bridge out, something was not right in the universe. That bridge is several miles inland on a small bay!!
Perhaps some of the other readers are local and can tell you more. The kids in South Florida have been through 3 hurricanes, so they are probably lucky to get a Christmas break! Unless ol' Jeb decides to tack the days at the end of the school year or shorten the mandatory days of school.
Who knows....I'm going to Disney World!
