When The Ship Pulls In, Which Side Has The Better Views

New cruiser with ressies for the Dream in 8/2012 and the Fantasy in 8/2013.

Our rooms are 6040 on the Fantasy in 2013 and 5546 on the Dream in 2012. Both staterooms are on the left (sorry for the lack of naval terms)

I believe that we will be able to see Castaway Cay from our Verandah by being on the left side.

What about when pulling into St. Thomas or St. John, will we have the better view pulling in? I have seen pictures of the Disney Cruise line pulling into those islands and it appears that those on the left get the views.

When the ship backs into Castaway Cay, which it usually does, the starboard side (right side when facing the front of the ship) has the better views of the island. The view is overlooking the beach area.
It looks like you are booked in a port side (left side of the ship when facing forward) on the Fantasy and the starboard side on the Dream. YOu should have a nive view of CC from your Dream cabin.

I do not think you can really say which is the "better" side. It just depends what you want to see. We have been on both sides of the ship with large balconies on Castaway Cay and actually prefer the view away from the hustle and bustle of the island. It is very relaxing for us to look out from our balcony and see the open sea with a parasailer going by now and then. I remember another cruise pointing at Castaway Cay and thinking "iiiccchhhh, why did I book this side of the ship". Also, I think it might have been Nassau, but the way the ship was docked, the starboard side was jammed near another cruise ship. The opposite side was at least reasonable. Of course, you never know where the ship will be docked until you get there. So, it is a bit of a guess. But I think that, generally, the port side might have the more quiet of the sides.

Thanks for taking the time to look at the deck plans and correct me. Now I am tempted to cancel the 6042 room to get on the right side.

I find, for us, it does not matter one iota which side of the ship we are on. We often are on the port side and at CC we enjoy watching the CM's (ship and island) hook up all the lines holding the ship, unload all the supplies and reload all the supplies at the end of the day (it is amazing to watch!), unhook the ship and also love watching them wave goodbye to us with the big Mickey hands when the ship departs...it is all very interesting...plus there is a great view of the water....so to ask which is "better" is just people's opinion....no right or wrong answer.

When we are on the starboard side at CC we the enjoy the view of the beach....all personal opinion!

As far as other port....doesn't matter to us.

I would probably keep the reservations the way they are that way you get to experience both sides of the ship and the views. Or you could always take a gamble to wait and change until after your 2012 cruise to see if you would want to make the switch.

We've been on both sides of the ship and found we don't spend that much time out on the verandah when docked in port to make that much of a difference to change cabins for that reason.

We backed into Nassau last week on the dream, carnival pulled into the ships left 1st and then RC to the ships right. Didnt matter what side you had, all you saw was cruise ships. We did like having the beach view at Castaway Cay. But really how much time do you spend looking out? We were either headed off the ship or off to do something...

Can't remember now if we pulled in or backed in years ago, but I found myself on the bow watching the approach and that tiny little spec in the distance grow bigger. I think we pulled in.

Just want to clarify one of the posts explaining port and starboard sides. The Starboard side is on right side of the ship when you are ON THE SHIP facing the front of the ship.
