When Southwest is sold out

If the flight you wanted with Southwest says sold out,do they ever reopen the flight?

I have the same question. Flights we are interested on Southwest are showing "Sold Out" for the "Wanna Get Away" fares. But they are available to purchase as "Anytime" Fares or "Business Select" fares. Will more "Wanna Get Away" Fares get released? i.e. the cheaper flights?? They are currently about $375 each way for the "Anytime" fares, and that is crazy expensive for Southwest.

I think they sold out because Disney opened the free dining for the time we are going. I'm a Disney Vacation Club owner so we don't benefit from the dining plan. Bummer.

My flight in Sept was showing the cheapest fares sold out, but now they are available again (and for a reasonable price).

Last year I booked a wanna get away flight for our way down and shortly after booking, like later that day(it was the day in May the fare window opened for Nov and later trips), the flight became sold out and stayed that way for months. I kept stalking SW as usual looking for price drops(get my points back!), and a few months later that flight finally opened up again with decent price and stayed open until the week of the flight when I stopped watching. I've been watching flights for a Sep trip I booked for my DD24 and her DBF. About a month after booking, their time for the the trip down went to sold out. Just opened up the other day and the price is back at it's lowest(not lower though, darn it, lol), where it was when I first booked on the day the fares opened in Feb.

This is a bit confusing to me. I mean if they are sold out, but then open up flights again that are then available for several months until flight time, did that many people suddenly change their flights all at once? I really didn't get it when they opened the booking window, and later that day the flight I bought was sold out, maybe 8 hours after opening, but then months later it suddenly could be booked for a number of people(at least I could select 8 from the drop down menu). Anyway, I've found in my experience, at least, that flights that went to sold out, especially months ahead, they seemed to always come back to be able to be booked.

Unless you are boking a very busy time like spring break, I think the "Sold Out'" on their cheapest fares usually just means they are currently sold out of the cheapest fares that were allotted for that sale period. I've seen them show "Sold out" and then the next week I look and it is back available again at the same or sometimes better price than it was before.

Airlines are constantly adjusting their fares. It is always possible that they will release more fares in a lower fare class if higher fare seats aren't selling.

I had the same experience in January/Feb for our ticket sin August and then magically, the WGA fares opened and are still open.
