When should I purchase air for July?

We have always flown in the summer on Northwest to Orlando from Detroit. This is the first year we have the baby (she'll be 2 when we fly), so our flight times are a little more important than in the past. I normally would purchase my July airfare right about now - begining of April, so what are you all doing? Have you purchased your airfare for July/August yet?

You may be too late to get good rates. I bought our June tickets in Feb. for $210 each and checked over the weekend and the price is up to $460 each. This gas problem is raising airfare.

I checked just now, and our flights are still $230.00 rt, DTW to MCO (early arrival, late return), which is what we want. I looked in my travel records and 2 years ago (before the baby!) we purchased air on April 21 for $150.00 rt, DTW to MCO - can you believe that! My DH says that we should purchase now as we are fearing that the gas issue is going to raise rates as well.

Thanks for the advice, Tiger

Just bought our tickets for late July-August (24-1st.) for Indy to MCO. got r/t, n/s, on Northwest for $156.90 ea. Price went up $20.00 an hour later. Good luck.

Have you checked prices with www.spiritair.com?

Personally I prefer to use spirit while traveling with my children since they are still in the old small terminal at DTW. Much less people traffic at security.

Also I have found that lately when I have flown NWA, they have been switching gates on us & we are running thru the long terminal to get to the right gate.... (Not fun with two kids).

Whichever airline you do decide to go w/, you should purchase quickly.

Already bought ours too. We are going July 25-Aug 4 with an EARLY AM departure and a late night arrival. We paid $212 RT for ours from MCO to MCO. I did notice the price has been going way up.

I'd recommend trying Spirit, too. I got our non-stop from DTW to MCO for July for $69 each way back in February. I think they've gone up but I'm betting Spirit is still a lot cheaper than Northwest.

I guess I'm not a good one to go buy. We've had our tickets for this July since last August. :) Seriously though, I would get them ASAP because prices are only going to get higher before they get lower with the gas issue.

Thanks for the info, at this time, Northwest is the cheapest - way cheaper than Southwest, and cheaper than Spirit. We only use Northwest and have a lot of Worldperk miles, so we are going to book ASAP for July.

Hippychickali LOL! I have had my airfare for August since October. Spirit was having an awsome sale. I got rt tickets for $136.
