"It’s a beautiful summer evening in the Magic Kingdom on our first night in this, the Happiest Place on Earth. We’ve just witnessed the glory and majesty of Spectro Magic and are about behold the grandeur of Wishes. I have come here to make a lifelong commitment to the woman I love. I have picked this, the perfect moment, to ask her for her hand in marriage.” It wasn’t to be…

A few weeks after I booked the trip she seemingly suspected the proposal and got scared. Although I bought cancelation insurance I didn’t have the heart to cancel the trip. Two heartbreaks would have been too much. So I decided to take another woman instead. One whom I knew loved me dearly and Disney World alike. My mother.

I wasn’t sure she would go because in fact, she was already going to Disney World two weeks after my dates to celebrate her 30th wedding anniversary with my father. But my trip was fully paid for and on the free dining plan; minus one plane ticket (those things are non-transferable, boo).

One thing you have to know about my mother is that she has sacrificed a lot for her children. Her entire life has been dedicated to making mine and my sister’s life fun and full of laughter. We have been to Disney World four times as a family since 1996. The last visit was 2003. My parents put everything they had into those Disney trips – especially my mother – she was the catalyst. It is from these experiences I developed my love for Disney World. A feeling matched only by my mother. Who better to take.

Additionally, in the wake of these events I got into photography – something I had great interest in but never pulled the trigger. I suddenly felt a weight in my pocket and it wasn’t a ring. I bought a Canon DSLR and a few expensive lenses to match. Great pictures are something that I covet on vacation and Disney World is no exception. But in all honesty, it was the high-res food porn that did me in.

We leave August 22 from Dallas/Fort Worth at 7:30am. We return August 29 in the late PM. 8 days. 7 nights. One amazing adventure with my mother

And I'll take my niece one day when she is older!

Friday, the day we had been waiting for. The eve before the big trip. We both woke ourselves up around 6:00 am so that we would be good and tired to go to bed early and get enough sleep for the 4:00 am wakeup call the next morning. I love taking early flights because by the time you get to Disney World you still have pretty much a full day of fun in the parks.

We spent this day packing and just enjoying the excitment. I love to pack for a trip like this. I get to think about what I will need to be wearing on different days and all the other essentials I will need for a week of Disney World.

The electronic picture frame was so I could view movies and images I had taken throughout the day at night. This way I could better see which pictures were keepers and which ones I could toss out. Well we were so beat at the end of every day that I only used it one time and videos were not compatible at all. Oh well, it seemed like a good idea at the time!

So off we gooooo!

We saw this little family just two seats in front of us. The dad is wearing pink Minnie ears and toting a pink backpack carryon. All for their little girl, which looked to be about three years old.

Heading to the Magical Express! (/Mears bus)

Pop Century was the first stop. We had read horror stories about Disney's Magical Express losing peoples luggage and long waits. But we experienced none of this. From start to finish the ME handled everything very smoothly.

We're there...

More to come!

Hoorah!

you are off to a great start...

Can't wait to read more.

We got to Pop Century and started to look for the online check-in counter. We did this because I heard it was the fast track to getting into your room and thus, to the parks faster. Well as we walked into the lobby...

Everything Pop

we walked all the way to the end...and didn't see anything that said "Online Check-in" so we had to ask and apparently the only thing giving people a hint of online check-in is sign with nothing written but drawing of what appears to be a monitor. I would have prefered words...But anyways. Only one party in front of us and we got right in!

I paid for a preferred room because I wanted to be as close to the main building and the food court as possible. I had read and been told by CMs on the phone that this would be in the 60s section. But when we got assigned our room it was on the back side of the 50s...Our preferences that were supposedly put into the computer when I called for online check-in the week before were gone. So we made a little bit of a fuss and she checked for availability in the 60s. Initially she told us it was all full, but when she finally looked she found us a great room in the 60s next to the elevator on the 4th floor. Anyways, the room was ready so we unloaded and went to the parks!

The bus stop.

We always go to the Magic Kingdom first. The moment I always dream about is that first peak...you know the one...

Our first target was Pirates of the Carribean. We had talked about it for weeks which ride we would do first and that is where we headed. But not before taking all the obligatory Castle pictures first..As well as getting our first photopass.

Notice the genuine smile...This was early in the trip and before being beaten down all week by humidity. Watch for that smile to change as the week progresses :rotfl2:

To our dismay, Pirates was temporarily closed. How temporary? We didn't know. So instead we headed over to Jungle Cruise in hopes that Pirates would be open when we got back. But first we jumped into the Pirates shop! Of course that was still open!

great start, love the pics. Sorry about the ring situation though

We were at Pop Century Aug 24 - 29th. Wonder if we saw you. We were on 4th floor of 50's building too. Did you watch the shuttle take off? We were the ones with the kid that was asleep on Dad's shoulders. We woke her up to see the launch, but the next morning she woke up and asked if we missed it. :rotfl2:

Actually we were in the 60s building. We were almost in the 50s though. And yes we did watch the shuttle launch. We didn't know about it until we got there that week. We sat outside Tuesday night at 1am when it was scrubbed. When it finally did launch on I think it was friday? It was trully amazing. Something I will cover later in this trip report as I took a few pictures. :)

We need to find you a woman who appreciates you, because you are obviously a GREAT guy - good lookin' Momma, too!

Can't wait for more!
