Do you group your items all together as closely as possible or do you spread them out?

When I was in the check-out line yesterday there was a woman in front of me with maybe a third of a cart full of items. The guy ahead of her had a gallon of milk and one other item, so there was plenty of room on the belt for her to start putting her items on. She just stood there, I know not what for. Finally, as he was paying for the items, she started putting her stuff on the belt. She didn't put them close to the front, behind the separator bar, she spread them out along the entire belt, thus not allowing me to start putting my stuff on the belt too. I thought it was really odd how she had everything spread out so far from each other, and no she wasn't paying for items separately, it was all one payment.

I usually start loading my items close together as soon as space is available in the aisle and on the belt so I am not encroaching on someone else's "personal space". On New Years Eve day I got into the shortest line at Sam's Club with two items. I was behind a woman with a full cart. She was talking on her cell phone. The customer in front of her cashed out and in this very crowded store the cashier was waiting for her to load her groceries. I said "excuse me" at least three times. She ignored me and continued with her conversation. Finally, I wheeled my cart on the wrong side of the belt and paid for my two items within 30 seconds and was out the door. She was standing there asking if she had put her cart on the wrong side of the belt.

I don't think it's odd at all. Everyone has different ways of doing things. Maybe the woman was being respectful of the guy's space. I think it's rude when a customer that's behind me will start to put down their items, when I've haven't even finished placing my items on the belt. Just wait your turn.

I find that when I'm bothered by insignificant things in my daily life, there is usually a personal reason or problem that's the true cause of my annoyance and not the behavior of those around me.

I put everything close together.

I seperate it out too...There are things I want bagged together and unless I am at the commissary where they have actual baggers (that know cold goes with cold...Don't put household cleaners with food...ETC.....)I make it easier for them.

There is very little room between these groups though...Maybe an inch or two.

Stop shopping at Walmart.

I only care how much is in their cart. The cashier can only ring up items at a certain rate. I have found I can add items to the belt faster than thew cashier can ring them, so not having my items packed on the belt is not going to cause you undo time in the store.

I group them all together by where they get put away and I do it tight. I try to get everything up as quick as possible so I could get home.

I like to put like items together on the belt (freezer items, for example). I also kinda scooch them together, so that there's room for others. And if the belt doesn't move up, I'll move the items up myself. And I put down the separators before and after (if they have them).

Just cause I like it when those things are done for me.

:lmao: Wow-Wallyworld really drives you nuts-doesnt it?:sad2:

(Sorry-this was the second post/rant I read from OP this AM)

I usually put everything close together and try to group them how I would want them in the bag because our wally workers like to group t-shirts with pasta sauce!:scared1:

Maybe she didn't want any inappropriate touching going on.

That grouping actually makes sense to me, because then the tee shirt would be extra protection to be sure the glass jar doesn't break.

The only grouping that really ticks me off is raw meats next to ready to eat foods (fruits and vegetables especially) because of the contamination risk.

Personally, I do get annoyed in the moment when people spread out all over the belt. I prefer to have my stuff completely unloaded when it's my turn so I can just watch the pricing as the cashier scans. ESPECIALLY at a place like Walmart, because it's easier to fix a price or forgo an item in the checkouit line rather than stand in the long customer service line for an adjustment. When a person has 20 items spread out all over the place, I often can't watch the scanning. It's not something I'd dwell about all day, but I'd be annoyed with that previous person for a few minutes (till I left the store and forgot).

WalMart, Krogers, Scotts, Meijers - I don't care where I am shopping at, as soon as spaces opens on the belt, I start loading my stuff on there.

And yes, cold goes with cold. Boxed and canned items go with like items. Both DS16 and DD14 have learned how to load up the cart, so that when you put the stuff on the belt, that the heavier items are loaded on first. That why, as you load the bags into the cart, all the heavy stuff is on the bottom and you can put the lighter bagged stuff on top.

But then again, about 90% of the time, I go thru the self check out, becasue #1 I can ring up and bag faster than the people they have working as cashiers and #2 like Soldier's Sweeties pointed out, I know how to bag and can use far fewer bags than the cashiers.

I wait until the person has paid or in the process of paying before I put my things up on the belt. I HATE being rushed when I'm trying to check out and I do not rush others through the process.

I also do spread everything out on the belt according to my groupings. I'm pretty particularly about the way my things are packed.

Where you at Walmart yesterday?

Neither. I load based on belt speed. If the belt is faster, then my stuff spreads out. If it is slow, its stacked. I dont readjust my stuff after I unload.

When I am done, I will always put a separator behind my stuff.

Oh, I agree with you about the second person putting their things on the belt before the first person has all theirs on. But those belts are long, at least the ones at our Wal-Mart are, and all the guy ahead of her had were two items. She easily could have placed the separator bar thingie behind his two items and started putting her stuff on.

By her not getting her items on the belt sooner, made me still be in the process of putting mine on the belt as the cashier was ringing them up. I like to have everything on the belt so I can start putting the bags into my cart right away. As it was I could not do that, and all the bags on the wheel were full of my stuff and the cashier was having to stockpile stuff until I was finally able to get my stuff on the belt and then start putting the bags into my cart. :(

Nope, Wal-Mart rarely drives me nuts. I am usually not that observant of other people. But I was yesterday I guess. :)

As soon as there is room on the belt I start loadding up. If I run out of space I start rearranging or start stacking items to get more on there. Then I help the cashier bag all my items, not only do I get out of there faster but the people behind me don't have to wait as long.

I don't start putting my stuff on the belt until the person in front of me has all of their stuff up. I don't see the big 'rush' in putting your stuff on the belt. I mean it's not going to make the people in front of you get done any faster.

I think it depends on my mood that day. Sometimes I feel more rushed and start to load the belt as soon as I can, and other times I tend to take my time. I always place the seperater bar so the person behind me can start loading when there is room.

Either way it probably only amounts to at the most a minute difference for the person behind me.
