When Putting Your Items on the Conveyor Belt in the Store

I use every inch of space on the belt and will get as close to your stuff as i can without appearing rude. I do not wait for any signal from the person in front of me. I am at the end of the belt waiting for a little bit of black to show and I will start to load my stuff. I hate people who are not prepared at the check out line. If you are writing out a check - you can have it all prepared to write the amount in, or better yet - let the machine do it for you!

Ok, I know I posted this once before but it was awhile ago.

But the strangest thing we have ever seen is the lady who while shopping, packs her groceries in the cloth bags. Then sets the packed bags - one at a time - on the belt for the cashier to unpack, ring up, and repack.

Seriously!!! We have seen her a couple of times now. The last time, we saw her she was at the very back of the store - dairy area - with a full cart heading to the check out. Heard her tell her DD to call her dad and tell him they were heading to check out. We grab the last couple of things we needed in the area, then went over to the pet area then looked around at the movies and games.

It had been 20 minutes after we saw her heading to the front, when we got up there. She was still in line with 6 bags rang up, with a dozen more in her cart. As bags get rung up, she has an empty cart that she loads them into. We get in line with one person ahead of us, with the belt loaded. We had a full cart as well and we still got rung up and outta there before she did.

How she does her shopping - to us - is crazy. I would hate to be the cashier checking her out. It works for her, but I still have to shake my head over it and comment on her craziness.

Everything you said. People seem surprised that they actually have to pay for it after it is tallied up.

How bizarre. I have seen people take the portable scanner and pack as they shop but nothing like that.

I don't put my things onto the belt until the person in front of me is done putting theirs on the belt. I had a lady behind me once that was ridiculous. I had a lot of groceries that day. She puts the divider down at the end of the belt and starts unloading her cart. Meanwhile I was out of room by the time her stuff came to the front. It just made her wait longer because the cashier had to scan stuff as I handed it to her.

I have to admit I really don't have a planned procedure for putting my items onto the grocery store conveyor belt. It probably depends upon how distracted I've become over the latest tabloid covers.

I'm now sitting here pondering just how many times over my life I've inadvertently added an extra 18 seconds to somebody else's check-out time with my careless thoughtlessness.

I usually unload my cart after the person in front of me is finished unloading. If there are no separator bars, I watch to make sure none of my stuff gets added to the person in front of me. What really, really, REALLY bugs me is when the person in front of me uses a shopping cart to bring just a few items to the checkout, unloads & picks up his bag of stuff, walks off & just leaves his cart right there in the way.

As long as there are separator bars, I like to put my stuff up close together.

I don't even put like with like anymore because I know it will get bagged willy nilly and I'll be rebagging it as I load it into my car when I shop at Walmart.

I really don't want spaghetti sauce jars in the same bag or pickle jars in the same bag. I had to slam on the brakes once after grocery shopping to avoid hitting a car that pulled out in front of me and had a jar of pickles, a jar of soy sauce and a jar of spaghetti sauce crash together. The resulting staining mess and smell that leaked out of the bag stayed in the van until the day we got rid of it (2 years later!) even with several professional cleanings.

I really like to have it all up before the scanning starts so I can keep an eye on the prices.

I've noticed that some people don't like other peoples stuff on the conveyor belt even if they are done unloading. That may be one reason why she spread her stuff out so much.

I wait until the person has paid or in the process of paying before I put my things up on the belt. I HATE being rushed when I'm trying to check out and I do not rush others through the process.

I've never felt rushed because someone else puts their items on the belt after I'm done.

I've NEVER had the experience of someone putting their items on the belt before I'm done, though...if that happened I'm sure it would make me feel rushed, and I'd have to make that stop. But not just having more than one person's items on the belt at the same time, I don't mind that at all!

In fact the other day I got to see a new product that was interesting, because the women behind me were loading as I was paying.

Neither. I load based on belt speed. If the belt is faster, then my stuff spreads out. If it is slow, its stacked. I dont readjust my stuff after I unload.

When I am done, I will always put a separator behind my stuff.

Me, too.

...I kept adding things to the belt. I started seeing random things in the middle of my purchases that I knew I didn't put in my cart!
I looked behind me and the lady behind me was putting her stuff on the belt with mine! Who does that? The cashier kept saying Mam, you have to wait, and she just kept piling her stuff on! I'm guessing she didn't understand English:confused3 I had to go through my cart after the cashier had my things back in my cart( no bags at aldi) and pull things out that belonged to the lady. Now that was redonkulous!

That IS ridiculous! And weird. What was she thinking? Even if she didn't speak English, she should still be able to see that her items are going into your bags...
