When is the best time to take a mid-day break?

We like to be at rope drop and have an early lunch to head out by 12:30/1:00. We relax, swim and head back for dinner around 5:30 and more attractions/shows.

We didn’t go in 2020, but the two summers before that we went end of July through early August. We left parks around 1-2 and went back around 4-5. But it was flipping a coin if we could swim since there were thunderstorms almost every day at that time. Good time for me to rest and DS to hit the gym.

We haven't been in the parks in August, but considering the heat that time of year, I would go early, maybe rope drop, then leave between 1 and 3pm, which might be the hottest time of the day, and head for the pool until returning to the parks at around 3 hours before closing, not knowing when each park closes in August.

I don't actually take a mid-day break much at all - but when I do, I tend to do this a bit earlier. I would be at the park before it opened - leave the park between 11am - noon. Sometimes I would eat lunch in my resort room, sometimes I'd head to a different resort for lunch then Lyft back to my resort, sometimes I'd do QS at the resort for lunch (it's pretty quiet then, actually). I'd then chill out - and head back to bus stop at the resort to go back to a park anywhere between 3-5. Honestly - it depends on park hours and HOW hot it actually is.

But honestly, unless the August heat is unbearable (it was one trip to US/IOA for me) - I just plan a TS meal mid-day and not leave the park. Wastes too much time and takes too much energy to leave and come back, IMO. I find it easier to stay - or hop to a meal at a close resort and then come back.
