As a WDW vet, I am thinking about going out to DL for the 50th.

When is the exact date?

Am I crazy to even want to fight the crowds? I think my DDs would love to be there for it (and so would I)

Do you have any plans for the 50th?

Thanks for the insight.

Disneyland opened on July 17, 1955... so the 50th will be July 17 2005.
I'm guessing that the parks will be quite crowded with Disney fans and although actual festivities for the day will probably fall short of expectations, one has to ask oneself isn't it worth going just to say and to know that you were there for the actual day? (Kind of like the few people who spent the night on the cold ground in Disneyland to be among the first official guests to enter DCA on it's opening day [Feb 8, 2001] even though most of us had already visited the park [I myself had been 3 times prior to opening]. It's knowing that you are part of history and enjoying that fact no matter how crowded the park is.)
I'll be there I'm sure, though probably working GC or something like that.

September 2005 (hopefully).

9-10 days:
4-5 days at DL/DCA
Legoland
Sea World
SD Zoo
Maybe Knotts
Would love to catch the last two days of the trip at GC, but we'll have to see...Probably stay at Embassy Suites South most nights.
Will definitely do at least one character meal!

Cannot wait!

I meant to say that we are planning on going to DL in 9/05. The actual 50th celebration begins May 5, 2005.

We'll have our AP's back so I figure we will be there on and off all year long(starting right before the kickoff in May)and we for sure plan on being there on the 17th for one of those trips!!We were there on the 17th last year and had a blast, in fact that was the day we did Club 33

DH & I are going in July 2005 for the 50th anniversary. We're going to spend four or five days at DL and then travel up north to the San Jose area to visit my relatives.

I plan on being there on July 17th for the actual anniversary. I went to the 40th anniversary & had a great time celebrating even thought it was extremely crowded.

I plan to be there July 17 05-

Im also tempted to head down for the May 5th kickoff-

Ive been at DL for its birthday the last 2 years and will be there this year :) -em

This just makes me cry.

My mother, nephew and niece are also going in July while I have a job on a movie set from June thru August on the East coast, so I cant go.
My wife told me she would not go with the rest of the family so not to hurt my feelings. ( but I am sure i heard her talking with my mother about going with them ). :(

I hope (know) all of you will have a great time.

Even if all I do is sit on a bench in the park I want to day I was their. I would like to take my kids but I don't know how bad the crowds will be. I am planing 5 days total,I can hardly wait.

We were talking about going in May '05, but now it looks like we might be able to make a trip to WDW this December. If that happens we will most likely push back our DLR trip to December '05. I wouldn't mind as I've always wanted to do Christmas at DL.

There's no way I would even think of going near DL on the actual day of the 50th. Those of you that are thinking about it are braver than I am. I'm glad the celebrations will be going on for 18 months.

My Dad was there on July 18, 1955 - the day after it opened. I think we may try for July 18, 2005.
