I was curious if anyone has any critter tales to tell?

When DW and I were at the Fort 10 yrs ago, there was this honking huge black snake that made it's way around our campsite. It just freaked my wife out! :lmao:

I thought this was gonna be another thread about the dog run, when we were there last month, a giant poodle attacked a couple dogs in the dog run, and sent one to doggie er, and supposedly killed the other. :(

We were over run by the little lizzard/salamander things last time, they were everywhere. :lmao:. And I have pictures of why there are no more peacocks at the fort.....

the first time we stayed in a cabin about 2 in the morn. squirrels decided to have a party on our roof. how can something so little - sound so BIG ?

The black snakes and lizards are completely harmless. :) But, when an armadillo works his way through your campsite and the surrounding brush at night, it sounds like it's 6 feet tall! They always scare me, and I have to lay there, huddled in a ball, repeating over and over "it's just an armadillo, it's just an armadillo..."

One morning, I got up to find one of those armadillos helping himself to eggs & bacon from the cooler! Somebody snapped a picture for me!

the THIN black snakes........ We had a rather large gator come near our campsite, but everything was ok.

We had one of those little lizards in our camper. What fun that was trying to catch it. There was no way I was going to sleep with that in there! :rotfl:

ah, the black snakes are helpful, they eat rodents, now if you see one that is red, yellow and black with the red stripes next to the yellow, then you will have to worry just a bit, but only if you don't have shoes on...;)

i have a black racer that i let live in the garage...he eats the rodents that sneak in the hole i haven't fixed...just like having a pet in that you have to clean up after it, but better because i don't have to entertain it! :lmao:

(I do love pets, in fact I have one (a sugar glider) and I am between dogs...;) )

Other than a few drunk otters mugging the peacocks, not much trouble. Oh yeah, there was the Gatordad incident too:

Has there ever been a problem with gators!? :scared1:

Do they ever make their way up the creek or canals around the campsites?

I'm abit paranoid.

some small ones have made their way to the canals, they remove them quickly tho. usually within the hour.

I don't like snakes, when I took 2 of the 3 kids (at the time) to Sports we were strolling past the small bush line and a black snake was popping his head out. YUCK!!!! Luckily just bunnies at the Fort for us though.

We had an armadillo also, he rustled around in the leaves while we sat a foot away from him under our awning...and so his name, according to me, was Russell while we were there :goodvibes He was pretty cool.

Once when we were at the Fort I ran into this vicious, rabid, foaming at the mouth,blood-sucking,giant ...MOSQUITO ! It was horrible !! Actually I was asleep in a lawn chair and my wife came out and swatted it (squished it) on my arm. ...She saved my life ! ...:) ...Mr.:goofy:

I had an encounter with a peacock several years back...seems that some campers (rumored to be BDR and Gatordad) had fed it beer and it was a bit woozy. It came up to me and puked all over! Maybe that is why they aren't at the Fort anymore! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

I would NEVER intentionally waste good beer like that.....that sucker snuck up behind and blindsided me with a steel chair, then 23 more of them rushed out of the bushes and took every last bottle!!!
