When does your school start back up ?

Ours here in Ohio are starting August 11th which is 2 weeks earlier then usual. I just wondered are most school starting early this year or is it just ours ? I thought maybe it may effect crowds in August and May if everyone is changing

Sept 2nd which is the first time our city had ever started after Labor Day. Typically they start around the 20th of August

September 4th this year. Whitehall in the Lehigh Valley area of PA.

Last year we went back the week before Labor Day for the first time ever. The teachers and parents complained so much they switched us back to post Labor Day again.

We get out around mid June each year.

We are in the capital district in New York and always go back the Wednesday following Labor Day. We'll be in Disney from August 17th to the 31st. Those last few days are always much lower crowds.

We live in Virginia and start Tuesday after Labor Day. Kids were out June 13th this past year, which was normal. We are not going to Disney till 2015 and thinking late Sept/early Oct. No fall breaks for us so will take kids out of school.

most public school districts here in the Austin area start around the last week of August. private and charter schools start anywhere from mid July to the week after Labor Day. everyone tends to end the last week of May or first week of June, the schools that start earlier or later just have different breaks throughout the year.

Yep, August 5...West Kentucky. Of course, last year they started near the 15th and then we had ice and didn't get out until June! This year, hoping for May 17 finish.

Other DD in Florida starts August 6. Typical for their district.

I'm a teacher in NJ, and I go back Sept. 2. My kids go back on Sept. 5.

In NJ, our contracts go from Sept. 1 - Jun 30, so they can't have school start before Sept 1.

We are just north of Atlanta, GA, and we go back August 11th, about the same time as last year.

I always find these kinds of questions amusing. Here's what happens year-in and year-out: August will start busy and end quiet, and May will be quiet until the last week or so--irrespective of the very minute number of school schedule answers you'll get here.

Similarly, spring break means higher crowds from about the second week of March until about the third week of April. If Easter falls very late, add a busy week to the end of that span.

It is interesting to see how the calendars are in different places. I teach in Philadelphia and the teachers always go back Sept 1st or the first Tuesday after Labor Day, whichever is earlier..and then for the kids not until a few days later. This year, the kids don't start until Sept 8th...and we'll get out around June 20th or whatever. We don't get much in terms of breaks this year, Spring break is only 2 days (Thursday/Friday before Easter), and the traditional week around Christmas.

I'd love to start earlier or go to a more balanced schedule but since most of our buildings are old and have no air conditioning we can't. Retro-fitting the schools is a matter of having money and we are broker than broke.

In Michigan public K-12 schools can't start until after Labor Day. Of the two big systems here, both start September 2nd (one might be the 3rd).

The two biggest local private systems start August 20th and then the 25th for the other.
