In Barbados we start in early September and end in late June. Between there we have 1 week off in October, 3 weeks at Christmas, 2 days in February, 2 weeks at Easter and 2 days in May. The school year has 3 terms, usually averaging 12 weeks each. The reason half term in term 1 was stretched to a whole week off rather than just a couple of days is that it's a long than average term - it can be as long as 14 weeks sometimes.
Obviously we don't have snow days, and very rarely do we have schools closed for tropical storms, so we don't have make up days.
