Darnit. I posted before the poll again. Wondered which way you meant that and chose the wrong one. LOL

Ours start at the beginning of Sept, and get out toward the end of June.

In Germany the schedule is closer to a year round one. Summer is 6 weeks. In our area that means getting out of school at the END of July and going back after the first or second week in September (we went back Monday).

I chose "start Aug., finish May," however for the last few years due to snow days, it's been "start Aug., finish June." This year we started on August 11th.

We start the Tuesday before Labor Day which this year was August 30th. If there are no snow days the last day is June 15th but we also have a week off in Feb and a week in April.

North Carolina has a state law that dictates when school starts and ends. School cannot start before August 25 and must end before June 10. So our school calendar starts on Aug 25 each year and usually ends between June 8-10.

My kids started Aug 30th and will get out June 6th unless they need to make up snow days.

My kids always start the day after Labor Day and end in June, usually around the 10th.

DS9 starts every year after Labor Day on a Wednesday and ends on a Wednesday in June. This year his last day was on his birthday.

Here, in primary school (4-5 to 12-13 year olds) they finish at the end of June and return on September 1st i.e. 2 months of summer break.

In secondary school (12/13 to 18/19 year olds) they finish at the end of May and return on 30th August or September 1st - a whopping 3 months summer break.

They get two weeks off for Christmas, two weeks off for Easter and two 1-week mid-term breaks in October and February.

I picked other.

Generally, we start the last week of August and finish the third or fourth week of June. (Last year we started 8/30 and ended on 6/24) This year we started 9/1 (two day delay thanks to Hurricane Irene) and will finish around June 19/20 depending on how many snow days there are.

When I lived in Ecuador, the school year depended on the part of the country you lived in. In the coastal areas, the school year started in early March and ended right before Christmas, but the mountain areas (where I lived) started in Early October and ended in mid-July.

In Barbados we start in early September and end in late June. Between there we have 1 week off in October, 3 weeks at Christmas, 2 days in February, 2 weeks at Easter and 2 days in May. The school year has 3 terms, usually averaging 12 weeks each. The reason half term in term 1 was stretched to a whole week off rather than just a couple of days is that it's a long than average term - it can be as long as 14 weeks sometimes.

Obviously we don't have snow days, and very rarely do we have schools closed for tropical storms, so we don't have make up days.

My kids always start the day after Labor Day and end in June, usually around the 10th.

Same here. Day after Labor Day and the last day is the Wednesday of the 2nd week of June.

This year they started Sept. 6 and get out June 6.

In SC schools can't open before the 3rd week of Aug, by state law. Most schools started between Aug 15-17 this year. We're done between the last of May and 1st few days of June. Any snow/ice days get made up at the end of the year or they'll start taking teacher work days and minor holidays like Memorial Day or MLK's birthday away. They won't mess with the major breaks around Christmas and Easter.

We started Aug 29th and will get out May 31st unless we have more than 3 snowdays!

Start August 30 - End June 15. - Of course, we've already had one "snow" day because of the power outages after Irene so we could be much later.
