The wife and I are headed out to the Boardwalk next week for a long weekend of food and wine to celebrate our anniversary. We are leaving behind our 2 DD's ages 2 and 5 in more than ample hands and they will have a blast, but I can't help feel a little guilty. Keep in mind that the entire family are yearly travelers to WDW and we were there for 8 days in July.

We're going in October without DSS, but he knows we're taking him back in December. It's hard to talk to him in the evenings while we're there because we do feel bad for having fun without him. Don't feel guilty! Parents need vacations too.

Lol. I think we're doing that, but I haven't bought tickets yet. There is still a possibility that we will take him, but it will mean he misses a few days of school. They just missed two days for flooding in GA so I don't think his teacher will be keen on us taking him out of school.

My son is a Disney nut. . .he only gets to go once a year to Florida though. . .cause he is FAR too busy in his personal life and school to get to go more. He does get to do the Original House of Mouse a few times a year. .. its local though. . .Oh, I don't feel guilty at all. . .he is going to be 17 in December so he either needs to set his priorities in order or miss out. . .ROFLMAO. . .

We went on a fishing trip in Florida a couple years ago with another couple and they had never been to Epcot, so on the last day we got up at the crack of dawn and drove to Epcot, spent the entire day and night there, then stayed at The Swan and drove home the next day. We had so much fun walking into the house wearing our extra magic hour bracelets - it took the kids all of a minute to notice and yell HEY! WHERE WERE YOU?? It was great. No guilt - they get to go all the time!

Aww..why feel guilty? You're giving your children the gift of two happy..well rested parents...that's beyond compare! Enjoy your time together..your children will benefit from it in the long run. Go ahead do MNSSHP! You'll both return home with a smile...:) and hugs....:grouphug: That is it's self is a precious gift to a child...May you have many more to come...:flower3:

Thank you.

I have to be honest, however...no guilt.

I would not feel guilty at all, it's not like you haven't taken them before, or won't take them again. Now is the right age for them to get acustomed to you taking time for yourselves once in a while. You have family time and family trips, but you also need grown-up time once in a while, spending one-on-one time with your honey makes for a better relationship, which in turn is better for the whole family... so, really, you are taking this trip for them! :rotfl:

Besides, eventually they will turn into ungrateful, lifedraining teenagers - so be glad that you are setting down guidelines for trips without them now... you'll really be happy that you did... :thumbsup2

Ghostman, we are doing exactly the same thing you are at exactly the same time! We were there in July too! I also feel a little guilty, but as someone else said, having happy parents is better for the kids in the long run! My kids won't even miss us with all the fun things they'll be doing with their grandparents! I'm counting on getting there & having all the guilt melt away as soon as I go under the purple Walt Disney World sign! :yay:

"when does the guilt kick in?"...um...NEVER

yanno, i said this in another thread but we don't OWE our children a Disney vacation. I didn't go to Disney til I was 40 and I'm almost semi-normal and well-adjusted.

Go. Have fun. Feel no guilt!
