When do you run your pool filter?

I have an in ground pool and for years have always run my filter during the day. My brother runs his at night because he feels that the chlorine circulates when the sun isn't on the pool to take the chlorine out. Any opinions?

I run mine at night...just easier that way as I am home incase something goes wrong

sun causes the chlorine to leech out of your pool.
when do you add your chems? that will make a difference as to how much chems you use over a year.
i tend to run mine about 12 hours a day,mostly at night.
i just figure my electric meter is spinning fast enough during the day i dont need to add to it.
i also run my auto-vac at night too,so that way in the morning the pool is nice and clean if i want to jump in right away.

Our pool is located under trees. A lot of stuff falls into the pool day and night.

We run the filter 24/7. If we didn't, the pool would turn into a swamp.

I use Biogard products so I keep "stingy sticks" in the skimmer basket and add the algeacide at night. Also, when I shock the pool, I add the Burn Out at night. I picked up some "Smart Sticks" which seem to last longer in the basket. We took the chlorinator out. It was more trouble than it was worth. Also, we are going away for 17 days this summer. I was going to put a combination of stingy and smart sticks in the skimmer basket and float the same in a floating chlorine dispenser. I will have a neighbor check in at least once. Any other thoughts? The pump is on a timer.

I run our filter during the day (8:00 AM to 6:00 PM) because usually no one is in it and it does not disturb the neighborhood as much as it would if it were running at night. I also think that it is better to circulate the water when the sun is out to keep down on algea growth. If it was used more during the day and we didn't have neighbors so close, I would think about running it at night. That is just my opinion though and not based upon any facts. Jay

We have a few trees around. Not a lot that I need to run ours 24/7, but enough that I run the pump all night and I can manually remove the few that fall during the day. Our neighbor has a stupid pine tree in his yard and while it's not directly above our pool or anything, we do get some of those stupid pine needles in the pool. They're so much worse than leaves!!! A few years ago, he was going to chop the tree down and he even started to, but then he realized he couldn't just chop it down because he didn't know where it would fall. He'd hacked into the thing quite a bit and I was hoping he killed it. So far though, it doesn't appear to be dying. I asked hubby if there wasn't something we could buy to take over and put into the ground around the thing to kill it? LOL I was just kidding though, I would never do that!!

I add my chemicals in the morning. I never thought about adding them at any other time. We do of course, shock the pool at night though.

Filter pump runs 24/7.... could probably get away with running it less, but quite frankly I am too lazy to try to remember.

I add chemicals whenever I think of it or whenever the pool starts looking green! ..........................P

I run mine during the day. It would make too much noise at night. I used to have these horrible trees nearby and it would take forever to get all those dumb leaves and fluff that would come off of them. My DH finally got so upset that he cut them down! Well, at least we don't have so much junk in our pool anymore, except for bugs.

Mine runs for a couple hours at around 1am-5 am. I only put chlorine in the pool once a week since I use a different system but since you are not supposed ot add chlorine during hte day I toss it in the skimmer basket before bed and when the filter kicks on it sends it into the pool.

We run ours rounds the clock. Seems to do better this way.

all of the pools i deal with run 24/7...

I use Chemtrol auto chlorine/ph feeder, with liquid chlorine...when the levels drop the pump kicks in....Sodium Bycarbonate must be added manually, however my PH 9/10 times is right on the money so I hardly ever use that. I did add it once last year.

I shock on Sunday afternoons at 5pm, as the pools are not used until 6am on Monday...
