When do you need to book?

We are looking into the possibility of buying a TT. A significant portion of our usage would be to stay at the Fort for a couple weeks a year. As we look at it, I find us needing to know how far in advance we would need to book. We will be tied to school schedules and thus would travel primarily during the summer and, perhaps, extended school breaks now and then.

How far ahead do you need to book to get a site during the summer? What about X-mas and Spring Break?

Thanks for your help. I expect my fellow dis-campers will be a significant resource for us as we continue our exploration.

You can book a room only reservation by phone 499 days out. We always book our vacations just as soon as we have a good idea of the dates - usually as close to the 499 mark as possible, especially if we're going around a holiday. You only have to leave a deposit of one night's $ to reserve.

If you're looking at going during a busy time of year (spring break/Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Halloween or during the summer) I'd book as soon as you possibly can, as those times fill up super fast, often a year or more in advance.

I fully understand that with the holidays - does that stand true with the summer as well? I'm not sure we could count on booking summer trips 12+ months out!

What is the cancellation policy if you book ahead and have to cancel?

Yep if you want a certain level loop, premimum, preferred or full 500 days out is when you should book or you will just have to get in line and make many phone calls to get your dates.

Pretty much book as soon as you know when you want to go. If you are using the online system I have found that I keep getting no spaces available if I try searching for vacation packages. I get my dates if I just try booking FW without buying anything else (tickets, meals, etc.). I don't why this is, must be a glitch in the booking system.

You can cancel 5 days before your scheduled arrival and get the deposit back. Deposits are typically one night...so figure anywhere from $50-110 depending on site type and time of year. The ability to hold a site so far in advance without risk is one reason sites book up for popular times...but also leads to a significant number of cancellations as you get closer to those times. I have always been able to get sites during the times I want, even key holidays, by just continuing to try and snag a cancellation.

So, don't fret it too much. It does help to book far in advance as soon as you know your dates, but if that's not possible you can usually get what you want if you keep trying.

We live about an hour away in Brandon, FL. We have booked up to a year in advance - and friends of ours book a month or two prior - and get in! I feel that who answers your call for the reservation, determines if you can get in or not........Also, book at least 5 - 7 days then cancel, the days you do not choose to go - once the reservations are made and your (1) night deposit is paid!
