When do you make your site requests?

I just made ressies yesterday for a weeks stay in June-yeah! We've been to the world many times but never camped at FW. We have a 30ft TT and will be bringing our dog. Should I have made all of my requests then? (pet loop, etc). Or should I call before we leave? This is sort of a last minute trip as DH has business in Orlando and we are still considering just staying in a hotel. But with 3 kids I thought we'd be so much more comfortable in our camper. Also, we reserved the last full hook-up site they had, were unable to get preferred with cable. Will it make that much difference? I really have no idea how this campground works! Thanks for any help.

You should always make all your request when you make the reservation, especially if you need to be in a pet loop. All the survey questions Disney ask on my dime every time I call is a big pet peeve of mine. So I try to handle everything with one phone call.

We always just get full hook up for longer stays and a partial hook up for weekend stays.(We have a popup) I think the preferred sites are a little more packed together and we would rather be closer to the pool than the marina. There are a couple of the sites in the 1400 preferred loop I would like to get but figure the odds of getting one would be pretty slim. Your kids will love FW. There is so much more for them to do than at a hotel. Be sure and bring their bikes if you can. FW is a big place and bikes really help getting around and it’s just a fun place to ride.

Thanks for the info Memph1s. I guess I'll have to call back. When I called I really wasn't expecting to make the ressie, just checking availability for our dates, and to be honest I was surprised at any availability at all. The kids are not really that excited about camping because they love the Dis resorts (yeah I know they are spoiled ) But I know they'll love it when we get there. I thought I read somewhere that all of the loops were going to be pet loops. Anyone hear this? I really starting to get excited about this -I love camping!

When making reservations you can ask to be assigned to a specific loop, and they will even note a specific favorite site, but remember nothing is guaranteed!

Many people will recomend faxing a request to the room (OK, in our world it's a site) assigner abour four days before arrival.

The following is found on All Ears Net; Deb's Unofficial WDW Guide:

As of December 15, 2003, Disney's Wilderness Lodge is no longer accepting fax requests for room assignments. All room requests must be added to your reservation by the Disney Reservation Center (WDTC and/or CRO) at least 10 days prior to your arrival at WL. Faxes may be sent to DRC at 407-939-3463 or they may be called at 407-WDISNEY. This change now means WL and all the DVC resorts no longer accept room request faxes.

The official Disney policy on room preferences has always been that they need to be added directly to the reservation by DRC and contact with the resort was discouraged. In the past, that policy has not been strictly adhered to as the volume of the faxes received by the resort has been manageable. WL made this decision based on several factors which included the increase in the number of faxes received and the adverse reaction upon resort arrival of many people who could not have their room requests granted. Currently, each resort is free to adopt this policy or not as they see fit.

Disney's entire system of assigning rooms is currently undergoing a metamorphosis. Recently, the Disney Reservations Center (DRC), which is comprised of both the Walt Disney Travel Company (WDTC) and the Central Reservations Office (CRO), had a new reservations computer system put online. This program will mesh seamlessly with the forthcoming new property management computer system that the Disney resorts will be using. Once that resort program is online later in 2004, the need for faxing room requests will be unnecessary at all the resorts.

Until then, you may still follow the advice listed below . Keep in mind that all resorts do not operate exactly the same. Some will no longer accept faxed requests. Others still welcome them ... for now.

So, what does this mean...

You can ask for anything on your reservation and even fax a request a few days before. The pet loop part absoutly needs to be noted before hand on your reservation.

With a pet, you are restricted to either a full hook up or preferred. No, I don't hink you just getting a full hook up will make a big difference in your magical experience. As Memph1s pointed out, it seems to be nicer to stay near the meadows rather than the marina.

I am pretty sure that all loops being pet loops is only a rumor and will never come to pass.

o.k. so I will need a full hook-up pet site, preferably near the pool and arcade. On the map the 900 loop looks pretty good. Any opinions or advice? If a preferred site becomes available how about 300?

I' not a big fan of the 300 loop. The sites sem packe in too tightly for my taste.

Were it me, I'd skip the preferred and go with the 1600 loop. It's right across the street from the Meadows and there is a very nice pet walk available right off the 1800 loop.

We always request what we want/need right up front when we make the initial reservations call.

As for faxing of site requests, I have done it despite the policy change. When we first visited in May 2003 we took whatever they assigned to us since we knew nothing about FtW. One of our first things was to tour around and when we did we found the "perfect" site for us. When we made reservations for Dec 2003, I made the specific site request and was told the same old "can't guarantee" line. 4 days before we left (right after the new fax policy came out) I faxed a note and when we arrived we got the site we wanted. In June, we did the same thing, but got the site across from our perfect site. It was vacated the next day and stayed empty until about a week later. In Dec 2004, I once again faxed and got our site request granted. So it maybe policy, but it never hurts to ask. Tomorrow is 4 days until we leave for our 5th trip down. I will be faxing a nice note requesting our site again. I will let you know if we got it or not.

This trip is sort of last minute for us, we ususally plan months in advance. We're thinking of adding 1-2 more days at the end of the trip, so I'll have to adjust the ressie anyway (if we can). Since we've never camped at FW before I'll take Tim5055's advice and request the 1600 loop.

They are all about the same, but I would try to stay away from the ones that back up to the main road.
