When do you bank

I've set up an email reminder that shows up 2 weeks before my banking window. Any points not accounted for at that point get banked.

I tend to wait until the last couple of weeks before banking just in case we go on a spur of the momnet trip. Then again with 3 little ones nothing is spur of the moment anymore.;)

I set up a reminder a couple of weeks ahead as well. Although with my youngest heading off to college in another year, that may open more opportunities for spur of the moment trips, so I may have to re-visit that.

When is the banking deadline - is there a list somewhere that shows each UY banking deadline? We've never had any points leftover to bank - but maybe one day...

I will take everyone's advice and keep my points available until that last moment..

Thanks to all!

It's the end of the 8th month following your use year. Use year month is month 1. No banking at all is allowed during the last 4 months of your use year. For example, if you have an August use year, your banking deadline is the end of the following March. No banking is allowed in April, May, June or July if you have an August use year.

There is a list of all 8 use years and their associated banking deadlines on page 9 of your 2008-1009 Vacation Planner. Your specific deadline will also be listed on the Members' Website in the "My Membership" section. Also in that section, you will also find a link to a very helpful Q&A, entitled "Understanding Your Vacation Points".

We generally only take one trip per year, so I bank as soon as I'm done planning the trip for the current year. I'm a wee bit forgetful - I'd rather bank early than lose the points completely.

As a regular reader of fine print, if you review the banking guidelines on DVCMember.com, there is a chance that they could deny or delay your banking request. The exact phrase is:

To maintain a proper balance of Vacation Points in the Central Reservation System, banking may be suspended or limited from time to time.

When I asked MS about it, I was told that it had never been instituted but it could be used. Basically, they would tell you you cannot bank your points if there are too many people trying to bank xxx number of points at the same time but you could bank at a later date. I asked what happens to my points if I try to bank on the last day of my banking window but it is denied or delayed and was told I would lose those points because I didn't bank them by the deadline. MS recommended banking as soon as you are sure you are not using the points during the current UY to avoid the chance.

It sounds like it hasn't been used but it's better to be aware of the possibility just in case.

VERY INTERESTING!! I have a December use year and my banking window ends July 31. I have a reminder set up in my calendar for 2 days prior to bank all my remaining points. I am now going to change that from 2 days to a couple of weeks out. Even though this option has never been used that doesn't mean it never will. THANKS hlyntunstl!

I usually book at 11 months so when I make my first reservation for the new use year, I bank then. For example, I have an April use year, I made a reservation for May 2009 last month, I banked my remaining 2008 then and applied it to the reservation. I may book a trip to Disneyland in early December, I will borrow 2009.

You're very welcome. I wanted to mention it for this very reason. I have a bit of an Eeyore complex so I'm always sure I'll be the first person that something like this would happen to.:scared:

I have heard that the best way to do it is bank them right off the start, you can always use your banked points, but once they are gone it is difficult to reclaim them.

I don't know how true this is, but it is what I heard. :)

I am confused on this also.. since you can borrow for the year ahead, if you bank them, cant you borrow them if you decide on another vacation?

You can borrow the next year's points, but you can't borrow the banked points.

For example, you bank 100 2008 points into 2009. In 2009 you get 150 points. You can borrow from the 150 2009 points, but you can't borrow the 100 2008 points.

But in 2009 you get to use all the points.. so I guess relatively speaking you are never without the opportunity to take a disney trip?

You could run out of points if you borrow all the next year's points (even though you still have banked points for next year) and still want to take a trip in the current year.
