We're planning a trip to WDW in the Summer (probably August). I've heard that the Parks get much less crowded after the American kids go back to school. Does anyone know exactly when this is ?
Not sure of exact dates - I think it differs depending on the State. However, we usually go the last two weeks of August and the crowds are reasonably light then.
Hi, we are booking our holiday now in April and had thought of last week in June and first week in July. So, is it reasonable to assume then that last week of August 1st week of September would be better? I too work in a school and am tied to summer break.

We went end August/beginning Sept the year before last and it got quieter as the holiday went, (apart from labor day weekend) and the last week was dead. Didn't have more than a 10 minute wait even for the 'mountains', with most other rides being a walk on. It was great! Labor day was significantly busier than the other days we were there (and we went to MK cause we didn't realise ), but it wasn't manic. There were no 2 hour long queues or anything. However, you could time your holiday so that you leave just before labor day, it's the 6th sept this year, or you could just avoid the main parks on that weekend and do pool/shopping instead. We thought it was a great time of year to go, and this year we're going on the 6th, so we just miss the holiday!
Hi! Just wanted to add that the northern states (especially New England states - Massachusetts specifically) go back later. We don't start until after Labor Day which is the first weekend in September. Most US schools start mid to late August but we go back on Wed. Sept. 8. Hope that helps.
