when do they film the Christmas day parade

The parade was filmed on December 6-8 this year. It takes hours to shoot the quick clips from today's broadcast. It isn't live.

For years I thought the parade was filmed live. I thought the people there were the luckiest people in the world! Then we just happened to be in the park a few years back on filming day. We spent 1/2 of the day participating. I said to my friend "I wonder when this special is going to to be on TV?" She said "On Christmas day!" I was in total disbelief! I always thought it was was filmed on Christmas morning!!! LOL!

I felt sad for you reading this. Like you need a hug. Haha! A Disney bubble was burst. :(. At least we can still hang on to the fact the Mickey is real. :)

Hope you're having a great holiday season,
Dreams

The Disneyland parade and entertainment portions were filmed on the second weekend of November this year, we were there (and have been for other filmings), its fun to watch the parade and see the park from when we were actually there.

Awww...thanks Dreams! It really was quite a shock when I found out. Kinda like finding out the tooth fairy isn't real. I just stood there and the words wouldn't quite register in my brain. "The parade isn't live???!!!" :faint:

But yes....at least we know Mickey and all the other charachters are real!!:thumbsup2

I believe it was Veteran's Day weekend this year.

It's the WDW section that is filmed in early December, usually the first full weekend following Thanksgiving weekend.

The Disneyland portion is traditionally filmed the first full weekend of November-- Right after Halloween has been taken down, but before *all* of the Christmas decorations have gone up.

Christmas Tree Point is where Nick Cannon's stage is set up, so obviously it needs to be filmed before the Tree is placed. Meanwhile, the garlands on Main Street are hung too low for some of the floats to make it through (namely the Soundsational! pieces).

They filmed the DL portion Sunday, November 10 this year. It was the day before Veteran's Day. We were there that day but we avoided the parade! We were with first timers are were more interested in getting them on some rides. :)

It was sad for me that it's SO EARLY - it makes it seem too fake! It was really weird seeing all the crowds dressed up like it was Christmas when it was still way before Thanksgiving. I just tried not to think about it when I watched the parade today.

They filmed the parade on the 8th, the stage performances on the 9th and the dancers on the 10th. They can't shoot down Main St once the tree is up, so doing it early is better than the alternatives. As soon as Halloween ends and the Christmas decorations go up, people start wearing Christmas stuff, so that had nothing to do with the parade filming. I've seen people fully decked out in Santa Mickey gear Thanksgiving weekend, but I've never seen a guest dressed as a Pilgrim walk down Main St. I think a lot of people who see a TV taping for the first time feel differently after they realize how it's done. Oh well, the stuff you enjoy on TV has to get made somehow, that's life.
