Gosh, I played with my toys well into middle school, pushing high school age! I loved my toys! Nowadays I am a toy collector - I have a huge collection of old Fisher Price toys! I guess it just evolves!
Sad thing is, I do a lot of babysitting, and I find that many kids just won't play with toys. They never touch a thing - toys have no interest to them AT ALL. These kids either watch tv, play video games, or expect adults to engage them in activities all the time. When I am babysitting, these kids are never independently entertaining themselves, which is sad. Then I end up entertaining and doing activities with them all the time (since the parents says no TV or video games), and it gets draining.
When I was a kid, we would play with toys or play outside for hours - we NEVER expected our parents to entertain us! Never!
Seeing how many of today's kid just can't be interested by toys is very sad, in my opinion.
