When do races typically sell out?

I was hoping Disney Running veterans could help shine some light on this! How close to the races do events typically sell out? I was considering doing the Princess Half with a friend and at least from what I can tell on the Run Disney site, there seem to still be a few openings. I know I should jump on it ASAP, but my toddler just started a bad cold and I'm terrified of spending $150 and then ending up sick on the big race day!

On a related subject, has anyone completed a half while sick? I think I could drag myself through a 5k while under the weather, but a half would be an entirely different beast!

Each race is different, but they all seem to be closed out or sold out with about 3 weeks to go. Usually Marathon weekend races seem to sell out the fastest, but there was late availability to that this past year. RunDisney will update the sell out percentage on Monday I believe. I wouldn't be shocked that it comes up 100% this week regardless of if it is or not. Totally up to Disney though. Good luck on making your decision. I'd book now if you are seriously thinking about the Peincess Half. I think you can always talk to Run Disney to defer it if you can't make it.

It's been at 97% for a few days...it would not surprise me in the least if they post it as sold out tomorrow, or any day this week. As far as deferring as the PP said, the deadline was Jan 15th, so that would not be an option. You can chance waiting longer, but I highly doubt it will remain open much longer.

Like the others have mentioned each race varies on how quickly they sell out. I would recommend that if you are interested in a particular race to commit because prices increase as you near the event date.

As others said, if you want to do it, you need to sign up now, because it will either sell out or close any day now.

Regarding running while sick - yeah, I've done it. Can't say that I have run anything longer than a half while sick, but it is doable, while unpleasant.

I just did the relay half with a cold last month. Not fun, but doable. No medicine is the worst part. I carried tissues with me stuffed in my sleeves!

I ran a half with a cold twice. The first was a training run for my first marathon two years ago. The cold literally broke that morning, so it kinda sucked, but it wasn't the worst thing in the world. I was able to keep my training pace just fine.

The second time was last year - also was a training run for marathon training. This race was part of a qualifying deal (run a few of these races to get a slot into a race for this year) so it was a do-or-die situation. I was sick enough where I didn't run for the whole week before (and I try to run through almost anything) and I went to a walk-in clinic a few days beforehand to get some meds because I was pretty desperate. It was a July race so it was pretty warm (80s) and the course had no shade. I also found out a week later that I was iron deficient, so I'm sure that didn't help the situation. Either way, it was probably the most miserable experience of my life.

The rule I've always heard is that if the cold is above the neck, its ok to run. If its below the neck, its not ok to run. Basically, if its a respiratory infection its best not to run.
