I heard its around 6 months. I'm looking at April and May 2016. No availability for GF or Poly studios but BLT and VWL are available. Any reason why it's not consistent?
Breakage is the term for converting the unused rooms to CRO and that is only within 60 days.
There are other ways Disney acquires points to make CRO reservations: uses of points outside the system, for cruises as an example. Disney essentially buys those points from members checking out and can use them, I believe in the same booking windows as you can.
There are also times when cash availability will occur long before 60 days or 6 months. This happens when DVC has historical data that demonstrates a % of villas will not be reserved by owners at that resort and they will release at least some of that % for cash reservations even as early as 10+ months prior. This will vary by resort and villa type. I am aware of someone who was able to find availability at BLT for two 2BR Theme Park View villas in late July for mid June, 2016. I'm sure this was an example where a BLT owner reserved a cruise or ABD and the points were made available to DRC for cash reservations (these were even found online). There was a pattern of such availability for 2 months prior to the June dates.
I agree. There are so few and members really want to book them. Plus with GFV being sold out for sales (and no waiting list to buy), they probably don't have any to offer for cash.
