When do Christmas decorations go up?

I did a search for past posts, but the search tool is not working for me. My family will be at WDW around Thanksgiving. Will the resorts and parks have holiday decorations up? Thanks.

They usually start mid November. We were there Nov 11th -18th last year and Epcot and DHS already had quite a few decorations up. As far as resorts go, The GF put thiers up on Mon night the 14th. WL had thiers up about the same time .... BC/YC/BWI/POR/CR had thiers up by Thurs the 17th.

The Magic Kingdom will not be fully decorated until early December. They wait until after they film the Christmas parade to put up the big tree, and string the garland across Main Street.

Things like the Candlelight Processional and The Epcot Holiday Storytellers do not start till the day after Thanksgiving, and just an fyi MVMCP does not run at all during Thanksgiving week itself.

Runner,
Our last 2 trips have been the week before Thanksgiving week. I remember MK, HS, and AK being in full Christmas trim, with the resorts beginning the process. The Beach Club (I think that's it, the one with 1900 Park Fare), was putting together the gingerbread houses, and the Wilderness Lodge put their decorations up on Thursday night. We had visited there on Wednesday, and heard they were doing it then, and went back Friday. It's amazing how much they put out overnight, without having a bunch of grumpy guests :rotfl2:
I think that by the week of Thanksgiving, everything is done.

You are mistaken about the Magic Kingdom. It isn't possible for them to put up the big tree or garland before they film the parade for tv. It all would get in the way. I was at WDW with my dad the first week of December a couple of years ago, and was very disappointed to not see the beautiful garland strung across Main Street. They typically film the parade the first weekend in Dec, and then they put the rest of the decorations up. We just missed seeing the rest of it by a few days.:headache:

I don't think they are mistaken .... I personally took the following photo on Wednesday Nov 16th of last year when we were there. It is true that the Christmas tree is not up at that time ... but most of the other areas are fairly well decorated.

Maybe we were just unlucky the year before, because in 2010 the garland was not up for our visit. :headache: I thought they probably didn't put that up until after the parade too, but maybe we just caught them on a bad year. I was very disappointed to not see it, as it looks so pretty in the pictures.

Just went and looked at my pictures of MK again, and I'm right, there was no garland up yet for our trip. And we arrived on Dec 2 that year.

From what I've heard all the decorations in the MK HAVE to be up by the 1st MVMCP, including the tree. And for the parade, the over-night before the filming, they remove the big tree at the beginning of the street and any other obstructing deco for the weekend of filming and then replaced overnight once filming has done.

I may be wrong, but that is what I have pieced together.

I hope it is ok to link to this here. It is from this past year. Take it for what it is worth.

The tree USED to be put up for the first MVMCP and it was put in the Rose Garden area by the castle till after parade and then moved. They STOPPED doing that a few years ago.Now they don't put it up till after parade taping the first weekend in December. The garlands MAY or MAY NOT be up.They weren't up for us in 2010

The garland in MK is definitely up the week before Thanksgiving. I've gone 2 years in a row that week, 2009 and 2010 and both times it was up!

The Christmas tree, however, is not up until December. I think most of the resorts are getting decorated the week before Thanksgiving too, we stayed in WL in 2009 and asked when the decorations would go up in the beginning of the week, and they told us Wednesday night...sure enough, we woke up Thursday morning, went down to the lobby, and the whole thing was decorated, it's amazing! :lovestruc I love WDW during the holidays!

Last year when my family stayed the 1st week in November, all the parks were ready with the christmas decorations by the weekend.

The resorts were starting, but I would expect they would not be complete until at least the MVMCP started.

Ok now I am really confused. I have pictures of my December trip to WDW, and there definitely is not garland in those pictures. Very very odd.

They wouldn't have taken it down to film the parade and then put it back up, would they? Or had it taken down because of how cold it was that year?:confused3 I know the garland wasn't up for our trip, it is obvious in the pictures I have that it isn't there! Weird. Weird.
