The
point charts at a given RESORT basically cannot change.
First think about the old fixed-week timeshare system under which each owner would get one week per year in their unit. It stands to reason that the developer could not sell more than 52 weeks for each unit, right?
Well, a point based timeshare system is essentially the same. Before points go on sale, the developer sets the
point chart. The chart determines the maximum number of points they can sell for each unit constructed. You take the number of points required for each night of the year and add them up--that's how many points they can sell for each room built.
Now technically the point charts CAN change, but the annual total must remain the same. If they raise points for one night (month, season, etc.) they must make an equal reduction elsewhere on the calendar.
So the number of points at a given resort really can never change. If it did, your ownership percentage would vary. And, well, that just ain't legal.
