When did your DS and DD stop sharing a bed?

I'd like to conserve points when I book multiple villas for a grand gathering next year. Unfortunately, that goal may be in jeopardy because I'm afraid it'll be time for us to require a 2BR.

At the time of the trip, DS will be 13 and DD will be 11. This year I avoided the dilemma because all of our vacation bedding arrangements provide bunks or berths. (A total fluke, I didn't plan it that way.) I suppose if push came to shove, they would still be sharing a bed this year.

For next year, I know we could stick with a 1BR if I slept with DD and DH slept with DS. But, if we do that, DH and I miss out on the private bedroom.

So, what's the general cut-off for a brother and sister in the same bed? I suppose it varies by family, I'm just wondering if we're ahead of or behind typical timing.

Don't want to start a debate. Please just share your experience.

PS: I know about areobeds, and we do have that option in place if a 2Br is out of question point-wise. I'm just not a fan of adding it to baggage and storing it when inflated.

Why don't you just invest in an aero bed (or soemthing similar) - the kids can take turns using it. Can't imagine either would mind - after all they are in Disney World!

my relatives never shared a bed - they would fight - all night long.....

just be happy your kids get along.

you can store the bed flat back in its bag.

My brother and I shared a bed when we were in hotels until he went to college. So, that made us 18 and 14. We never thought anything of it.

I agree with the two previous posters. The aero bed would be a simple solution to your problem without using any more points.

DD10 and DS7 just had their first experience with a 2 br this March. Otherwise they sleep together on the sofa. I guess after this trip they were really spoiled. I am just not sure if I will be spending that amount of points every trip!

Wow, I never thought about it before. We will be there starting this Saturday and my DD is 16 and my DS is 10. They will be sharing a bed.

I worried about the fighting thing a few years ago and purchased an aerobed. DS and DD usually bring their sleping bags and set it up on the open sofa bed--no fighting for covers and both are up higher. The aero bed is still carried along every vacation, but doesn't get much use.

I think our kids still shared at 13 and 11 but not much longer than that. I know at 17 and 15 we got an adjoining room, so they each had their own bed, but boy, it doubles the price....You know your kids. The areobed or even sleeping bags provide an alternative.

If you don't want to bring an areo bed, do this instead. Use the cushions from the pull out sofa to make a cushioned bed on the floor. The size was perfect for our 10 year old son and it was very comfortable and sturdy. The older sister (AKA "the princess") got the pull out sofa. I think we threw in a sleeping bag for our son to use in place of sheets. Worked great for us.

Mine are 7 and 9 and we get the 2 bedroom so they can have seperate beds.

I'm not sure that age is always the factor on sharing a bed.

DGD9 didn't want to share bed with DGS7 because he hogs it. He sleeps sideways and rolls around alot and kicks in his sleep. They still shared but there were issues..................

I would think that it might be time for them to be in separate beds, just from the privacy standpoint. I think the pillows on the floor is a great idea--or at OKW there is a couch and loveseat, each kid could have one. Once kids become teens, it's embarassing to have to sleep with your sibling. If their friends find out they will be teased, and that's no fun.

I think my brother and I were around 12 or 13, preteens or young teens, when we started using separate beds (we are twins.) We really liked our privacy then because so much was shared otherwise. I'd say when the youngest is beginning to grow into some preteen behaviors, it's time to add another bed, because they will start to want some privacy.

This summer, with DS 12 and DD 9, will be our last time having the kids share a bed.

No way are my DD15 and DS 18 sharing a bed they dont even like to look at eachother .when this is a problem DH sleeps with DS and I sleep with DD
its not like dh and are are going to be able to um how should i say it---cuddle with the two of them around

Our "kids" were 6 years apart in age..one of each sex. They never shared a bed.

I would think 13 and 11 is old enough to have seperate beds. My DS11 does not even want to share with 8 year old brother. By the time they are about 10 or so I think they need some personal space. DD and DS stopped sharing when they were about 5 and 8. Teens and preteens, I think would be uncomfortable sleeping with sibs.

I don't know if this will work for you, but it's only a few nights...

How about boys in one bed, girls in another. Mom & daughter in one, Dad & son in the other.

This takes care of the whole "privacy" thing and the awkward discomfort felt by pubescent teens/pre-teens.

Sure, Mom & Dad don't get to share a bed, but, what are you really going to do with 2 teens in the room anyway?
