when did you take away your child's

Neither one of my girls would take one. They wanted MOMMY!!!

But I saw a girl in highschool with a pacifier last week walking down the street.

Richard gave it up at 2 weeks. He didn't really care for it from the start. It was mom that stuck it in his mouth. He'd spit it out, and I'd stick it back in. LOL!

Boy, this post made me smile. Our DD was a complete and total 'nuk' baby. We had them everywhere - two in her crib, one in each room of the house, one in each car, one in each of my coat pockets! One day, on a routine visit to the pediatrician's, he started our visit by saying that he knew we were there because he heard her sucking all the way down the hall! Then, on a more serious note, he said "the call is yours but if you don't want her to have this for a very long time, take it away now." She was about 16 months at the time and it was the best parenting advice we were ever given. I have a feeling if we hadn't done it before she could talk, we'd still be arguing with her about it! (She's eight )

My ds would only accept a certain brand and style of pacifier and they stopped making them. When he threw his last one over Niagara Falls at age 13 months he took it away from himself

I think I was more attached to that pacifier than he was, he had no trouble giving it up

My Aunt took mine from me when I was 4..... at least that is what they tell me- I don't remember. My kids wouldn't take one.... no matter how much I wanted them to.

My DS stopped using hid during the day a little after his 2nd birthday BUT had it at night until our visit to WDW when he gave it to Mickey Mouse!We told him that Mickey needed to give it to a new baby that didn't have one!We were at Chef Mickey's for dinner and we have it all on video!!!!It's the cutest thing-although DS didn't take his eyes off Mickey for about 10 minutes!!!!He never asked for it again!He was almost 3 at the time-too late as far as I'm concerned but bedtime was a cinch!
Blanky on the other hand is still around at bedtime!His pediatrician said she has had patients going off to college that still had a piece of theirs!We asked him if he wanted to give Mickey his blanky this december but he said "NO"!

I weened Jayda and Myles at 12 months. I also potty trained them both at age of 2. Those were the days ONe thing I can't stand to see is a "BIG" KID still wearing diapers and pullups...ughh

My niece used on until nearly 2nd grade. She would keep one on each of her 5 fingers!! Her jaw and teeth are really messed up from it! A friend of mine's DD who is 4 1/2 still uses one occassionally. I hope she doesn't have any long term effects from it.

My DS absolutely loved his binky. He got his first cold when he was 9 months old and never wanted the binky again.

A friend's son used one up until kindergarten. He was very immature when he started school, largely because his mommy didn't want him to grow up.

DS' blanket (called baby) was another story. He dragged that thing around everywhere until he went to kindergarten, and dragged it around at home through first grade. He finally gave it up because it was by then nothing more than a glorified piece of string.

All three of mine were thumb suckers, I think it was genetic. I never hounded them about quitting the habit, they all stopped around age 6. All have major orthodontic issues. They were all really good nappers and sleepers, I didn't want to force them to quit sucking if it was there security.

I put my then 15 month old DD's pacifier in the driveway and ran over it with the car. When she looked for it, I took her outside so we could look for it there, too. She found the destroyed passy and tried to put it in her mouth. It just didn't feel the same so she threw it down and we never had another. I realize this was drastic, but she was addicted to that thing like it was a drug and I was becoming worried I'd never get it away from her. I'm sure she'll discover all this in therapy in the future...........

Mine used them until they were about 5. They stopped at school by the time they were 3, after 18mths they only had them for nap and bed time. I didn't allow them to take them anywhere.

I took it away from the oldest for a little while at about 3 but gave it back because without it she ground her teeth when she slept. Decided the pacy was better.

<font color=navy>My kids never wanted the pacifiers (lucky for me since both grandmothers were so against them & I didn't have to hear about it). My cousin's son still had one when he was 5, and he sucked on it so much that his front teeth (all four) had a perfect hole for that pacifier.

My dd was 2 & a half & didn't want to give up her bottle. One day she ran into a swarm of yellow jackets, and they stung her on her face & chest. Let's say that they left a lasting impression on her.... For some reason, we told her that the baby bumble bees needed her bottle, and she gave it right up --- We used to have her say over and over -- The baby bumble bees needed my baba It was so cute

Gosh..............Jadyn had his till he was around 2 - 2 1/2 & Lachlan had his a little longer pob just over the 2 1/2. He was real addicted to his dummy. Had to end up taking it & throwing it away He just couldn't seem to do without it.

My kids never used pacifiers....in the hospital they used to spit them out and I never gave them one, they never sucked their thumb either, I was very fortunate.

When DD (now 14) was newborn, the nurse kept insisting that "we" couldn't live in the same house with a baby if it didn't have it's pacifier. She kept insisting, but DD wanted no part of it....nothing came out, so totally useless!! Got real testy at the nurse. for pete's sake, I think the nurse needed it more that my daughter! Now,, at 9th grade came home from shopping with friends with one....I could have died. So told her, if she wants to act like a 1 year old she would be treated like one. No privileges, baby food for supper (thought the bananas were good...til we got to the creamed spinich) and she finaly got the message. With age comes growth....
